Only 40% Of TCS Employees Allowed To Work From Home: Is This Enough To Defeat #Coronavirus?

Almost all the companies are opting for the work from home for their employees to avoid suspending operations. TCS was one of the first companies to notify their employees to work from home.

However, what we didn’t know was that this facility has been only for 40% of TCS workers, and not all.

Why has TCS enforced work from home only for 40% of its employees? Let’s find out!

Work From Home Option Only For 40% Employees Of TCS

An official has revealed that the work from home feature is limited only for 40% of the employees of TCS. The reason cited for this is that TCS cannot halt some of the back-end support as many critical utilities are dependent on the same.

A Tata Sons spokesperson said, “TCS supports mission critical systems that run public services, banks and stock exchanges, insurance and healthcare institutions, telecom & utility providers, retail, consumer goods and travel companies, which in turn provide essential services to people globally. These organisations and the societies they serve rely on TCS to keep their vital services running in these critical times.”

Apparently, Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran has taken special permission from the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Uddhav Thackeray to keep the operations running smoothly.

TCS CEO Says Working For TCS At Times Like This Is Important

TCS CEO Rajesh Gopinathan has written an internal note to the employees saying that steps have been taken to minimise the density of people in offices, and to keep the offices extra hygienic and sanitised. These steps may be a bit tedious and inconvenient, they significantly take care of the safety of the people.

He said, “Each of us should be proud of the way TCS has responded to this crisis and stepped up to the challenge as one team. Working at times like this for companies like TCS is important because they support essential services.”

324 people have tested positive for the Coronavirus, and 5 people have lost their lives to the deadly virus. Despite the numbers, the company’s employees are still coming to the workplaces to ensure others’ lives run smoothly, and this is truly laudable.

Amongst other things, Coronavirus has also taken a toll on the bonuses and increments of employees of Tech Mahindra, and there are rumours that TCS, Wipro, Infosys, HCL can follow suit.
