Coronavirus: 11,000 Flipkart Employees Ordered To Work From Home; Biggest Work From Home Experiment In India?

This can be corporate India’s biggest move against the spread of coronavirus.

Around 11,000 employees of Flipkart at their Bengaluru campus have been ordered to work from home, for the next 3 days.

Flipkart’s Mandatory Work From Home Order

In order to stop the spread of coronavirus across their campus in Bengaluru, Flipkart has made it mandatory for all employees to work from home.

This means that 11,000 employees of Flipkart working at Bellandur office will now work from home, for the next three days.

There has been no positive or suspicious case of coronavirus at Flipkart’s offices, across India. Hence, this seems a proactive measure by Flipkart.

Biggest Work From Home Experiment?

This is also seen as a massive experiment by Flipkart.

In an email to sent to all employees, Flipkart management has described this exercise as a dry-run to observe, how the company operations are managed in case of a work from home initiative.

The email sent out to all employees stated, “Our BCP (business continuity plan) takes into account the potential risks a situation like Covid-19 can have on our strategic operations and our customer obligations. This trial is mandatory and we request your cooperation in helping us implement the same,”

Flipkart wants to see whether their technology and operations will operate smoothly or not, in case there is a massive outbreak of coronavirus, and every office in India is ordered by Govt to close down.

11,000 employees working compulsorily from home is the biggest exercise yet by corporate India, to control the virus, as well as test their own operational excellence, in the times of this pandemic.

Flipkart has also said that in case any employee is encountering cough, cold or fever, then they should be isolated for 14 days, and avoid going out.

PhonePe Employees Too Will Work From Home

Meanwhile PhonePe, which recently handled the Yes Bank fiasco in an amazing way, too will ask their employees to work from home for the next few days.

But here, not all, but 50% of the employees have been asked to work from home so that they can test their operational efficiency in case of a mass outbreak.

Flipkart has made it clear that no meeting, or any task should be postponed due to this work from home directive. But digital tools should be used, and employed to carry on the regular tasks.

We will keep you updated, as more details come in.
