Free FASTag Offer Extended Till February 29th

The National Highways Authority has announced that the free FASTag scheme has been extended till February 29th.

The free offer, which ended on January 15th, has proved to be a big success, and more than 1 crore FASTags have been sold till date.

Starting December 1st, FASTags have been made compulsory across all 527 tollbooths in India. However, around 25% of the tolls have still a hybrid entry, wherein both cash and FASTags are accepted.

How Much Will You Need To Pay?

Under this extended offer of free FASTags, the users won’t be charged Rs 100, which is the fees for buying one FASTag. 

However, the security deposit, and the minimum amount for recharging the FASTag remains the same.

The free offer for FASTags has been reintroduced for the period between February 15th to February 29th, 2020.

In a statement, the Ministry of Highways said, “In order to further increase digital collection of user fee via FASTag at NH fee plazas, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has decided to waive off the FASTag cost of Rs 100 for NHAI FASTag between February 15 and 29, 2020,”

Once FASTags are used by everyone on the road, then Govt expects a revenue of Rs 100 crore per day from the toll booths. Infact, as per Govt sources, the collection at toll plazas have increased to Rs 87 crore from Rs 68 crore due to the introduction of FASTags.

However, at the same time, waiting time at tolls due to FASTags, have ironically, also increased.
