Re 1 currency note, which is the smallest in denomination, will be reprinted with a brand new design, and color.
PM Modi led BJP Govt has decided to reprint Re 1 note with a new enthusiasm: New color, new dimensions, new design and more.
Ministry of Finance issued a notification in this regard: ‘Printing of One Rupee Currency Notes Rules, 2020’ vide Gazzette Notification G.S.R. 95(E), dated February 7th.

Re 1 New Currency Note Design
As per the new design of Re 1 note, the Obverse side will have the words: “???? ?????? imprinted, right above “Government of India”. Besides, a bilingual signature of Shri Atanu Chakraborty, Secretary, Ministry of Finance will be present as well.
A replica of the new Rupee One coin will be present, with ‘?’ symbol of 2020 issued with ‘??????? ????? and capital Inset letter ‘L’ in numbering panel.
The reverse side will have ‘???? ?????‘ written above the words “Government of India” with the year 2020.
A replica of Re 1 coin with ‘?‘ sign will also be present in the reverse.
Re 1 Note Numbering Protocol
The numbering will be done in black, at the lower right hand corner.
The numbers will be in ascending size of numerals from left to right, and the first 3 alphanumeric characters (prefix) will remain constant in size.
Re 1 Note Coloring Scheme
The overall color scheme will be pink green on the obverse side and reverse in combination with others.
Identity Of India On Re 1 Note
On the reverse of the Re 1 note being printed now, there will be images of grains which will showcase the identity of India as being an agriculture-dominated nation.
The surrounding design will depict ‘Sagar Samrat’ the oil exploration platform, and the value of Re 1 being written in 15 official Indian languages.
Who Will Bear The Signature?
Re 1 note is the only note in India which is being printed by Govt of India, and not RBI.
This is the reason that the Re 1 note will have the signature of Finance Secretary and not the Governor of the RBI, which is the norm for other currency notes.
Bonus Trivia: Re 1 note was first printed in 1917, during the end of World War 1.
At that time, coins were minted as well, but due to scarcity of metal, British Govt. decided to print Re 1 note.
In 1994, for the first time ever, printing of Re 1 note was halted, as the production cost of the note became higher than the value of the note (Rs 1.48).
