Instagram users in India are now able to ‘Shop’ directly on the app, but they are still not able to make the payments.
As per an exclusive report, Instagram has been testing this feature for the last 6 month, and very soon, it will be rolled out for all the users, and brands.

Instagram’s Shop Tab In India
Since last 6 months, Instagram has been testing a ‘Shopping Tab’ feature with some selected brands like Myntra and Nykaa.
With this feature, the fans of the brand can tap on the product and visit their website/app to make the purchase.
The products showcase the price, and a link to the specific product page on the brand’s app or website.
We opened Myntra’s Instagram page, and experienced it first hand.
This a pilot feature, and only available for some brands in India, as a testing mode.
However, the brands are not getting a lot of traffic with this feature, since the actual payment has to be made in another app or website.
An unnamed brand owner, whose Instagram page has been testing this feature said to Entrackr: “Currently the shop tab is not really giving us a lot of traffic because it’s mostly organic and users have to go to a separate tab to explore shopping. I think it will gain a lot more traction in the next 12 months or so.”
Checkout With Instagram Coming Soon To India?
The rea traction and popularity for this feature will arrive, when Checkout with Instagram feature is rolled out in India.
Checkout With Instagram has already been introduced in the US, wherein the users can not only shop for products on various brands’ Instagram pages, but also make the payment on Instagram, without leaving the app.
In the US, this payment feature is backed by PayPal, Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Discover. Instagram charges a fixed amount from the payment with the merchants.
It is being expected that once Checkout with Instagram feature is introduced in India, Shopping feature will make more sense, and more users will be able to shop on Instagram.
