Can Lasso beat TikTok?

TikTok Becomes World’s 2nd Most Downloaded App!

As per market analyst Sensor Tower, TikTok was downloaded record 74 crore times last year, which makes them world’s 2nd most downloaded app.

Whatsapp is still at #1.

By triggering 74 crore downloads, TikTok has not only beaten Facebook, but also Instagram and other popular apps in the list of most downloaded apps.

In China, TikTok is branded as Douyin, and the 74 crore downloads accounts both TikTok and Douyin.

The report has excluded several pre-installed apps, which comes by default in the Android phones.

Overall, TikTok has more than 1.5 billion downloads which is 150 crore users, and out of that, 45% or around 27 crore users are in India alone.

Last year, they entered into ecommerce segment, with an option to directly buy any product showcased by advertisers.

Having said that, this short-video app from ByteDance is still struggling to monetize their platform, and they are getting challenged from smaller rivals like Likee, which has now entered top 10 position with 33 million users.

Facebook’s Lasso Coming To India?

Meanwhile, it is now clear that Facebook is feeling the heat generated by TikTok, and this is the reason that their own short-video app Lasso is coming soon to India.

Lasso was launched in USA in 2018, and have already amassed 1 million+ users.

As per an exclusive report by Entrackr, Facebook Singapore has been working overtime to create a platform for Lasso to be launched in Asia, and India accounts a major market for them.

Facebook has already started partnering with content creators for Lasso, and reportedly, they are offering much more assured income, compared to TikTok. As per estimates, Lasso can arrive in India by May, 2020.
