Akash Ambani led Reiance Jio has now rolled out voice over WiFi service, for all their users. The biggest USP of this service is that, Jio users can make free voice and video calls to any user.

And, any WiFi network can be used for the same.

Jio’s Voice Over WiFi Now Officially Rolled Out

Jio has confirmed the roll out of voice over WiFi or VoWiFi service for all their users, pan-India. As per a company statement, they have been testing this service since last few months, and now, the service is ready for commercial rollout.

Using Jio’s VoWiFi service, Jio users can now make absolutely free voice calls, as well as video calls to any number.

Separate charges or IUC fees for calling other network’s number won’t be applicable for Jio’s Voice over WiFi service.

With this service activated, users can switch from VoLTE to WiFi inside their homes/offices, where network coverage is low, automatically.

Hence, Jio’s VoWiFi will use both WiFi service and VoLTE service for ensuring that the users’ voice and video calls are not interrupted.

This is a big development, considering that network coverage inside rooms, and basements/ underground premises is often low, and VoWiFi from Jio can help users to overcome this obstacle.

On the launch, Akash Ambani, Director, Jio, said “At Jio, we are constantly innovating to enhance customer experience or solve their problems.”

As per Akash, an average Jio user consumes 900 minutes of voice calls, every month, and considering this fact, VoWiFi from Jio was much needed.

How To Activate Jio’s Free VoWiFi For Your Smartphone?

As this juncture, Jio will support more than 150 smartphones for enabling Voice and Video calls over WiFi service.

This is how you can activate this:

Go to Settings option in your smartphone

Search for WiFi calling service

Enable the switch to activate the service

In case you are not able to see WiFi calling service within your Settings options, then it means that your smartphone is not supporting this service.

Earlier, we had reported that Jio is testing Voice over WiFi service, across three circles: Kerala, Maharashtra and Kolkata. This service will be rolled out pan-India, between January 7th to January 16th.

Earlier, Airtel too had launched their Voice over WiFi service across some selected circles in Delhi, Mumbai, Tamil Nadu, Kolkata and Andhra Pradesh.
