Kia Seltos Electric SUV Coming Soon?

There are many media reports talking about Seltos EV, it is already in the making and is expected to make its debut in 2020 while launch could be scheduled for end-2020 or early-2021.

The South Korean companies move to develop Seltos EV makes a lot of sense given a global rise in demand for SUVs and an overall push towards electrified powertrains in the industry.

But it’s not the first all-electric SUV fro the company as Kia already has Niro EV in its global line-up.

When Can We Expect The Launch Of Seltos EV?

As per the word on the street is that Kia is also expected to bring Seltos EV to India next year to join other electric SUVs like Hyundai Kona Electric, MG ZS EV and Tata Nexon EV.

The new Kia Seltos EV will most likely sport the same silhouette as the regular SUV but also expected to receive a handful of design changes.

What Changes Can Be Expected In Seltos EV?

The expected changes include a closed front grille, cleaner design for the front bumper (because of lack of air intakes), as well as blue accents around the logo, fog lamp housing, and rear bumper to highlight the SUV’s electric nature.

The new SUV model may also get different design for the alloy wheels to differentiate it from the ICE (internal combustion engine) sibling.

However, the Kia Seltos EV will not receive many changes on the inside except that the lack of a gear lever will free up more utility space in the center console.

Talking about the gear shifter, it will itself be replaced by rotary dials to shift between driving modes and change other mechanical settings.

It is expected that this SUV would be as feature-loaded as the regular model and get provisions like a 10.25-inch infotainment system with UVO connectivity suite, fully digital instrument panel, panoramic sunroof, climate control system, air purifier, etc.

What About Battery?

Kia could use a lighter version of Niro EV’s 64 kWh battery pack to power the Seltos EV. (Reference)

But it is also a possibility that Kia’s upcoming EV could make use of Hyundai Kona Electric’s 39.2 kWh battery pack to optimize the cost.

Seltos electric is expected to offer around 400 km to 450 km on a single charge so as to make it a viable option for buyers in front of rivals like Kona electric and ZS, which offer a driving range of 452 km and 340 km, respectively.

If we talk about charging options, the SUV is most likely to get numerous options like standard AC charging, DC fast charging, charging at select dealerships, etc.

Although, the more information will reach us once the Kia Seltos EV enters its production stage, probably by mid-2020. But for now, Kia Motors India is working on launching Carnival MPV in India, possibly in the first few months of 2020.
