Whatsapp has announced that they will be withdrawing support from many older models of smartphones in India. The popular social media app announced that they will be withdrawing support from the smartphones on its FAQ segment on its website.

Whatsapp To Withdraw Support From Smartphones From February 2020

Whatsapp has announced that starting from February 1, 2020, many of the older phones will no longer support the popular social networking site. These include both Android and iOS smartphones too. 

As revealed by the blog by Whatsapp, smartphones that have Android versions 2.3.7 and those older than that will no longer have Whatsapp support. iPhones that come with iOS 8 also will not support Whatsapp from next year. Whatsapp also says that if you have your phones running on these operating systems, you will not be able to create new accounts on Whatsapp either. 

In the blog, Whatsapp states, “For Android versions 2.3.7 and older, you can no longer create new accounts, nor reverify existing accounts. However, you’ll be able to continue using WhatsApp until February 1, 2020.”

In fact, if you are a current user of these operating systems, you will find that you are not allowed to make a new account on Whatsapp already. 

Whatsapp Will Not Support Windows Phones Anymore

In addition to that, Whatsapp has also declared that they will no longer be supporting Windows phones from December 31, 2019. Coincidentally, this is the same month in which Microsoft will end its support for the Windows 10 Mobile OS. 

If you are a Windows phone user and want to save your chats, there is an option to save your chat. Open the chat that you want to save, tap on group info. Tap on ‘Export Chat’, after which you will be given an option to 

Whatsapp has also listed the phones that will continue to get their support, which are Android phones that have 4.0.3+, iPhones with iOS 9+, some select few phones with KaiOS 2.5.1+, which includes JioPhone and JioPhone 2.
