Airtel Triggers New Price War: Makes Outgoing Calls To Jio, Vodafone-Idea, BSNL Free, Unlimited!

Ever since every telecom operator in India (except BSNL) announced price hike effective December 3rd and December 6th (Jio), users were shocked to know that outgoing calls to other networks were being charged.

At the time of price hike, Airtel and Vodafone-Idea along with Jio had announced a fixed quota of free calls to other networks, and beyond which, every call was charged as 6paisa.

Now, just days after this announcement, Airtel has triggered a new price war.

They have made the outgoing calls to other networks free of any charge!

Airtel: All Outgoing Call To Other Networks Are Now Free

In a tweet, Airtel has announced that all calls made to other networks from their platform will be free, and unlimited.

However, this free calls will only be applicable with their ‘unlimited plans’, wherein the users get voice call, data and SMS free in one single plan.

In their tweet, they said that the free calls to other networks will be applicable effective December 7th, and there will be no terms and conditions.

Here is their tweet:

Why Does This Matter?

Jio had actually started this new trend of charging outgoing calls to other networks, last month onwards.

Due to the IUC or Interconnect Usage Charge imposed by TRAI, Jio had to start charging for call made to other networks.

Jio is still charging 6 paisa for calls to other networks, once the specific quota is over.

Starting December, Airtel and Vodafone-Idea joined this trend, and they too announced a fixed quota of free calls to other networks, beyond which, charge of 6paisa per call was announced.

This is a worrisome trend for telecom users since the majority of calls made by any mobile user is to another network.

However, since Airtel has now made it free, and truly unlimited, their users can be relieved of the extra charges.

Besides, this new price war will also compel Jio and Vodafone-Idea to drop their charges for making calls to other networks, and make them free as well.

We will keep you updated, as more details come in.
