According to an independent survey, 51 percent of Indian citizens paid a bribe in the last 12 months for getting their work done with property registration, police and municipality departments.

While property registration, police and municipality departments are heading the list of departments where bribes are allegedly demanded.

Survey Reveals The Truth Of Corruption

Theses survey sought around 190,000 responses to come to these conclusions. That provides a state-wise indicator of corruption levels.

So according to the India Corruption Survey 2019, here’s a countdown of eight most-corrupt states in India. (Reference)

Tamil Nadu At No 8

Almost 62 percent of Tamil Nadu citizens admitted to paying bribes to get their work done. While 35 percent said they had to give bribes several times, on the other hand, 27 percent paid bribes just once or twice. 

And only 8 percent said they managed to get the work done without paying a bribe. 

Karnataka  At No 7

63 percent of residents in Karnataka said that they had paid a bribe to get official work done. 

Out of that,  35 percent had to give bribes several times while 28 percent paid bribes just once or twice. Only 9 percent said that they got work done without paying a bribe. 

Punjab At No 6

Following the footprint of Karnataka, 63% of citizens in Punjab accepted to paying bribes to get their work done. 

Out of them, 27% gave bribes many times, 36 percent paid bribes once or twice. Only 27 percent managed to get their work done without paying any money under the table. 

Telangana At No 5 

Around 67 percent of Telangana citizens said that they paid bribes to get their work done. 

From them, 56 percent accepted that they give bribes multiple times, on the other hand, 11 percent paid bribes once or twice. 

While only 11% could got their work done without paying any money unofficially. 

Uttar Pradesh At No 4 

According to the respondents, 74 percent admitted to paying a bribe to get their work done, among them, 57 percent gave bribes several times. 

While 17 percent had to pay bribes just once or twice and only 3 percent said they got work done without paying any bribe.

Jharkhand At No 3

The participant said that 74% of citizens said that they had bribe officials to get their work done. 

On top of that, all of 74% had to pay bribes several times while only 13 percent said they could get their work done without paying any extra money. 

Bihar At No 2

Around 75% of citizens in this state said that they have paid bribes, among them 50% paid officials multiple times. 

Almost 25% paid bribes just once or twice, while 25 percent said they got their work done without having to resort to a bribe. 

Rajasthan At No 1

This comes out as the most corrupt state in India with 78 percent of citizens saying that they had to bribe officials to get their work done.

 In them, 22% had to pay bribes multiple times, while 56 percent paid bribes just once or twice. 

Around 22% of citizens reported that they did not have to pay any extra money to get their work done.
