FASTags have become compulsory effective December 1st, across the country. In case any vehicle doesn’t have FASTags, then they will need to shell out upto double charges for the toll.
We have already reported what exactly are FASTags, and how you can buy them. In order to encourage the usage, Govt. is even providing free FASTags, for all vehicle owners.
As the date for implementation of compulsory FAStags is approaching, more than 28,500 Point-of-Sale (PoS) terminals are making the FASTags available for you to buy.
Banks such as SBI, ICICI Bank, Axis bank, Paytm Payment Banks, HDFC Bank, IDFC First Bank are also offering customers a FASTag on their official website.

How To Get FASTag From The State Bank Of India
As per the official website of SBI, you can approach any SBI PoS in the country. Next, you need to submit valid KYC documents and the vehicle’s registration (RC) copy along with originals for verification after which you will be enabled to open an account. There are two categories available for opening the account:
- A Limited KYC Holder account wherein you will not be allowed an amount of more than Rs. 10,000 in your FASTag account. Also, the recharging limit for each month is limited to Rs. 10,000
- The other category is a Full KYC Holder account wherein you will not be allowed an amount of more than Rs. 1 lakh in your FASTag account. Also, there is no limit for monthly reloading for this account.
Charges and Fees Of SBI’s FASTag
Rs. 100 will be the amount across all categories, and this includes all the applicable taxes. There will also be other charges that include a security amount and a minimum balance amount. The security amount will be refunded when the RFID tag is cancelled. Both the amounts will depend upon the type of vehicle, which is as follows:

SBI’s FASTags: What Does It Offer?
SBI’s FASTag service claims that users will no longer need to carry cash for toll transactions and worry about tendering exact change. The exact amount at toll plazas will be deducted from your FASTag account, which will help save time.
You can choose to recharge your account online, through a credit card, debit card, net banking/ IMPS, etc. You will also get an SMS on your registered mobile numbers notifying you if the balance gets low in your account, transactions carried out at toll plazas, etc.
There is also a promotional cashback that SBI is offering, wherein users will be getting a monthly cashback of 2.5% of all toll transactions. This offer is valid till March 31, 2020.
