Realme is all set to launch another budget killer under 10000, Realme 5S, an upgraded version of the current bestseller Relme 5. The new Realme 5S would be taking on the current hit Redmi Note 8 with similar specs and a 48MP quad camera.

Redmi Note 8 is currently making it big under 10000 with some of the best specs and features.

On the other hand, Realme 5 is the most affordable quad camera smartphone in India currently. The company now plans to take on Redmi Note 8 with an upgraded 48MP camera and some added features. So, can Realme 5S beat Note 8?

Realme 5S vs Redmi Note 8: Build Quality

Realme 5S comes with a polycarbonate body on the out, made to look like glass. It offers a gradient finish on the out with some highlighting colour combinations, made out of high quality plastic. 

In comparison, Redmi Note 8 features a complete glass body sandwiched within Gorilla Glass 5 protection.

Both the devices are fingerprint magnets, and do pack in good quality plastic cases in the box.

The colour scheme and gradient style is different in the two. Note 8 keeps it more simple.

Both Redmi Note 8 and Realme 5S have a notched display with the rear camera module placed on top left. Both the budget smartphones come with a rear-mounted physical fingerprint sensor supporting face unlock.

Realme 5S misses out on a glass body, but the plastic makes it a more durable. 

Both the smartphones feel premium in hand, but Redmi Note 8 here’s a winner with the glass built. The overall ergonomics are perfect on both the devices. In all, they are sturdy, stylish and won’t feel cheap in any manner.

Realme 5S vs Redmi Note 8: Full HD+ vs HD+ Display

Redmi Note 8 comes with a 6.3-inch Full HD+ IPS screen with a silver Redmi logo at the bottom featuring a water drop notch at the top. Realme 5 comes with a HD+ only display. It’s bigger and sized 6.51-inches with a small water drop notch on top.

The notch has also got smaller on Note 8, and it’s turned into a V-shape, an upgrade over the U-shaped notch on Redmi Note 7 Pro.

The chins on both the devices are fairly thick, though Note 8 has a thinner one. The displays are vibrant with minimal bezels on the sides with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection on top.

The displays on both the smartphones have very thin bezels. Realme and Redmi both have done a great job in terms of the overall screen experience.

Both Redmi Note 8 and Realme 5S are apt choices for content consumption with higher screen to body ratios and minimal bezels. But, Note 8 has a clear edge here with the Full HD+ display. Though, it’s hard to spot the difference, but it’s clearly visible while playing games or watching something in HD.

Redmi Note 8 vs Realme 5S: Same Hardware

Redmi Note 8 and Realme 5S are powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 665. The chip stands between Snapdragon 660 and Snapdragon 675. The 665 have a bit more to offer than its predecessor.

The new chip comes with added artificial intelligence capabilities.

Both the smartphones can run top-end games with extensive multitasking performance, UI being the only differentiator.

In terms of daily performance, there won’t be any issue on both the devices. Realme 5S have a dedicated HyperBoost and GameBoost to offer an enhanced experience. Note 8 also have added inputs to enhance performance.

Redmi Note 8 vs Realme 5S: Software

Realme 5S runs on the same ColorOS 6 UI. The improved UI does offer some refreshing features with an easy-to-use structure. The device will also get the upcoming ColorOS 7 update soon. Based on Android 9 Pie, the UI packs in a bunch of user-friendly features and tweaks.

Redmi Note 8 comes with the MIUI 10 based on the same Android 9 Pie (MIUI 11 update next month).

Reamle is also working on its own UI, RealmeOS. It’s supposed to launch by the end of the year, and will be pushed to all the existing Realme smartphones via OTA updates including Realme 5S. 

Coming to MIUI 11, it has a new minimalistic design with features as Dark Mode, Always On Display, Dynamic Clock and more. MIUI 11 also includes lock screen personalisations, a redesigned notification light, a wallpaper carousel and new dynamic wallpapers.

Redmi Note 8 vs Realme 5S: 48MP Quad Camera Comparison

Redmi Note 8 features a primary 48MP sensor with f/1.7 aperture, 2MP depth sensor, 8MP Ultra Wide lens and 2CM Macro lens. Upfront, Note 8 has a 13MP shooter. Similarly, Realme 5S also sports a 48MP powered quad camera.

Realme 5 came with a 12MP primary sensor, and on 5S it has replaced with a 48MP sensor.

The four camera system on Realme 5S include a 48-megapixel sensor, an 8-megapixel ultra wide angle sensor, 2-megapixel portrait sensor and a fourth 2-megapixel 4CM macro sensor.

Both the smartphones do a fair job offering great dynamic range with almost accurate colours irrespective of lighting conditions.

The rear four camera setup has multiple sensors for multiple purposes. Both can take good detailed and sharp pictures in bright light with accurate colours.

In poorly lit conditions, Redmi Note 8 manages to click decent photos with almost accurate details and colours. We are yet to test the Realme 5S camera in-depth, but the initial results are very impressive.

The dynamic range on Realme 5S is better and it captures quite accurate details and produce good colours. The HDR works fine, and the ultra-wide lens work fine. You should definitely try Note 8 with the GCam, it takes the photography results to a next level.

The photos taken in artificial lighting also did above average, and both can capture some good portraits. The AI features help both the devices capture decent selfies with above average low light performance.

The HDR works fine on Realme 5S, and the ultra-wide lens on each offer some good results, quite handy at times.

Both loses out on some details in low-light, but they do a good job overall. The boosted colours remain a problem for the Realme smartphone, but probably they will fix it with an update later to provide more natural colours.

Realme 5S vs Redmi Note 8: 4,000mAh vs 5,000mAh

Redmi Note 8 houses a 4,000mAh battery backed by AI smart optimization to extend the phone’s battery to last longer supporting 18W fast charging technology. The charge time varies from 100 to 110 minutes.

In comparison, Realme 5S packs a massive 5,000mAh battery. The device has been specifically optimised with hardware and software to allow the Realme 5S to last for the longest period possible on a single charge.

With continuous video playback, gaming and performing multi-tasking processes, both the Redmi and Realme smartphones can easily shoot up for a whole day without being charged.

Realme 5 has an advantage here with  a bigger battery, but Note 8 ships with a 18W fast charger in the box.

Realme 5S vs Redmi Note 8: The Best Camera Smartphone Under 10000?

The pricing bring Realme 5S and Note 8 against each other. Both Redmi Note 8 and Realme 5S makes for a good value for money buy given the specs. Both Realme 5S and Redmi Note 8  offer some excellent features on-board.

Starting with Redmi Note 8, it packs in a solid performance backed by a dependable processor, display with minimal bezels, quality quad camera, large battery, fast charging support and in-box fast chargers.

Realme 5S have its downsides with a plastic body and only HD display.

Note 8 wins here with additional edge with a glass body, full HD display, fast charging support and more. Realme 5S takes ahead with a big battery.

Both the smartphones are aptly priced with the latest features and specifications. Realme 5S is well priced with the newly upgraded 48MP quad camera system. Redmi Note 8 does end up a few notches higher.
