Railways Replaces 1 Litre Water Bottle With 500 ml Across All Shatabdi Trains; You Need To Pay For More Water!

We have been accustomed to hearing new news from the Indian Railways. It has been a major source of news these days, undergoing major reformations. Right from launching 10 ‘Sewa Service’ trains on new routes, redevelopment of stations, privatisation and IPO offerings and the highly appreciable step towards becoming the world’s first ‘green railways’, Indian Railways is on the stride of continuous work.

Here comes another such news from Indian Railways, this time concerning Shatabdi Express trains. Piyush Goyal-led Indian Railways have decided to 500 ml Rail Neer bottles to passengers travelling long distance travelers, instead of the standard one litre ones, to avoid the wastage of water.

Shatabdi Express to Offer 500 ml Bottles

Just some time back, Piyush Goyal-led Indian Railways declared that the government wanted to make the national transporter environment friendly, consequently the Indian Railways is planning to expand the use of solar energy.

In the coming 10 years, the government wishes to transform Indian Railways into the world’s 1^st 100% ‘green railways’and has started the work for it.

In a bid to reduce wastage of water on board the Shatabdi Express trains, the Railway Board has issued an order stating that the passengers will be provided with 500 ml Rail Neer water bottles, instead of the one litre water bottles provided earlier.

These Shatabdi Express trains offer chair car service and are generally meant for short journeys. The longest travel time by a Shatabdi Express train is between Delhi and Bhopal which is 8.5 hours.

So Shatabdi Express trains having a maximum run time of approximately 8.5 hours, will no longer be providing one litre Rail Neer water bottles to passengers who are travelling for more than five hours as was the norm earlier.

However, the passengers who wish to drink more water can get extra bottles but they’ll have to pay for it. This order  will be in effect for the next three months.

Eco-Smart Project by South Eastern Railway 

It has been reported that the South Eastern Railway has launched a project to make all stations under its jurisdiction eco-smart.

This zone has 362 stations under it, out of which it has started the work in 21 of its stations. These 21 stations will be worked upon to be redeveloped as environment-friendly stations in the first phase. Ranchi and Digha stations are two such stations that are being developed as eco-friendly ones.

As a part of this project, the South Eastern Railways has also decided to install Sewage Treatment Plant and Effluent Treatment Plant at all stations for zero discharge of untreated waste water. 

This means the treated water from these plants will be collected and  used for coach washing, afforestation and gardening purpose.
