India’s Cheapest Electric Car Launched At Rs 9.44 Lakh; Checkout Top 8 Upcoming Electric Cars In India!

Amid the Government’s emphasis on electric mobility and preservation of environment, automobile makers are coming up with many choices in electric vehicles.  

Meanwhile, India has got its cheapest electric car as Tata has launched the next version of Tigor EV in India. Its previous model could cover 142 km on a single recharge. The new version also incorporates fleet operations for private owners.

What Features This Car Offers?

It is an all-electric compact sedan. It comes with a 21.5 kWh battery pack which can run on a range of 213 km on a single recharge as per the ARI certification.

It would be available in three variants – XE+, XM+ and XT+.

What Would Be The Cost For This Car?

Prices for the car starts at Rs 9.44 lakh (after deducting Govt. subsidies). So with the lower prices, this car became the cheapest electric car available for commercial buyers.

For private buyers, the prices start at Rs 13.09 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and Rs 12.59 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

According to the prices, Tigor EV became the cheapest and long-range electric car for commercial buyers.

While Mahindra eVerito is the cheapest electric vehicle available for private buyers at Rs 10.47 lakh (ex-showroom).

All the government incentives are applicable to this vehicle like FAME II for commercial owners and it would be available for private owners as well as for fleet too.

What About Battery?

It has two charging points – one for regular charging the other one for fast charging. It also comes with a standard three-year warranty which is valid up to 1.25 lakh km.

Other Features

It has two driving modes – ‘Drive’ and ‘Sport’. It has Harman tuned sound-system, shark-fin antenna, EV decals, alloy wheels,height-adjustable driver’s seat among others.

For safety, it has dual-airbags along with ABS on the XM+ and the XT+ trim.while base XE+ has only a driver-side airbag.

It will be available in three colors in India –  white, silver and blue.

Upcoming Electric Cars Worth Waiting For

Recently All most all carmakers have announced their upcoming electric car models and rigorously working on them. While some have already launched their initial versions in the market.

Let’s take a look at these promising options if you are planning to switch to EV in the near future.

• Maruti Suzuki WagonR Electric

Maruti is planning to launch its most sold model as electric variant WagonR. It will come equipped with features like a head-up display, semi-digital instrument panel with a wide multi-information display, etc. This car can be expected to launch in the first half of 2020.

• Mahindra eKUV100

It was first showcased at the Auto Expo 2018 and is still under development. It sports the same looks as KUV100 micro SUV and also will be its electric counterpart. This SUV is expected to offer a better driving range than e-Verito’s 181 km/charge.

• Tata Altroz EV

This car shares the look with upcoming Altroz hatchback with little changes. It will have dual LED headlamps, ‘Humanity Line’ under the front grille, aerodynamic alloy wheels, etc. This car will be powered by Tata’s dedicated EV technology called Ziptron and will have a driving range of over 300 km/charge. 

• Tata Nexon EV

It is the first car from Tata which is powered by  Ziptron and includes a permanent magnet AC motor for spirited performance. This will offer a driving range of 300 km/charge and the electric SUV’s battery and motor will be offered with a warranty of eight years each. They planned to launch it by early 2020 in India.

• Ford Aspire EV

This is going to be the first EV from Ford. It will have the same looks as Aspire but is expected to grow in length. Its specs would be the same as  Mahindra’s e-Verito as powertrain will be sourced from Mahindra. 

• Mahindra XUV300 Electric

This vehicle is already testing in India. It sports the same design as the ICE (internal combustion engine) powered model. According to reports on the internet, XUV300 Electric will likely take on Hyundai Kona Electric and could offer a driving range of around 300 km on a single charge.

• MG ZS EV

This is going to be the second modal launched by Morris Garage in the Indian market after Hector. It will be powered by a water-cooled battery with rapid charging feature. It will provide a driving range of around 300 km/charge. It will have smaller dimensions than Hector and expected to be launched in India by December this year.

• Audi e-Tron

Its first EV by Audi and expected to be launched by the start of 2020. This SUV is powered 95 kWh lithium-ion battery which powers two electric motors. This vehicle would offer a range of 400 km on a single charge.
