Private Firms Allowed To Fix Their Own Fares For Private Trains; 50 Routes Will Run Private Trains Now

The privatisation of railways is going on in full swing, and now, the Indian Railways has announced that there will be 50 new routes on which private trains will be running.

The Railways has also declared that the fare of the privately run railways will be decided and managed by the private players themselves. 

An official statement has been given out by the Railway Ministry, which sheds light on the new developments at the Indian Railways.

Private Players Will Decide The Fare Henceforth

A big announcement that the Indian Railways has made is that the fare of the privatised trains will be managed by the private players who will run the trains.

The official statement issued by the Indian Railways clearly states, “They (private players) will have the right to determine and collect fares in terms of a Concession Agreement.”

Private players will be chosen through a bidding process, which is said to be transparent. The process will include a Request for Quotation (RFQ) and Request for Proposal (RFP). 

We already know the fares of the first private train of India, the Lucknow-Delhi Tejas Express:

• Rs 1125 for AC Chair Car (Lucknow-Delhi)
• Rs 1280 for AC Chair Car (Delhi-Lucknow)

The privatisation of trains is carried out with the intention of providing world-class facilities to passengers, and we wonder what the fares of the journeys will be if the trains will be providing a smooth amenities to the passengers. 

50 New Railway Routes To Be Privatised

A spokesperson of the Indian Railways has revealed that 50 origin/destination pairs/routes were under discussion provisionally. 

As per reports, the trains by the private players will be run on the routes designated to them on the payment of applicable charges. 

He also said, “Zonal railways will examine the feasibility of introducing additional and new trains keeping in view the infrastructural projects and capacity enhancement works which are underway and those which are in the pipeline.”

The Indian Railways has previously announced the routes of 24 new trains that will be run by private players, which included Delhi-Mumbai, Delhi-Lucknow, Delhi-Jammu/Katra, Delhi-Howrah, Secunderabad-Hyderabad, Secunderabad-Delhi, Delhi-Chennai, Mumbai-Chennai, Howrah-Chennai, Howrah-Mumbai.

The national transporter also announced that there will be 150 new trains run by private players to begin with. Also, the first private train, the Tejas Express will soon run the tracks, as soon as first week of October.
