More depressing news is coming in for BSNL employees, as the state run telecom carrier is gasping for fresh funds and a revival.

As per news reports coming in, 30% of all contractual employees from BSNL will soon be asked to leave.

And in a related news, Pune division of BSNL has reported that if the VRS or Voluntary Retirement Scheme is actually implemented, then 50% of the employees will lose their jobs.

30% Contract Workers Will Be Fired

A source from BSNL Employees Union has revealed that due to financial stress, and lack of funds, 30% of all contract employees will be fired by BSNL.

The unnamed source said, “The company has planned to lay-off 30% of its contract employees due to the financial stress,”

This decision will be based on a meeting which happened on August 20th, as per sources.

Note here, that 2500 contract workers from BSNL have already been fired till date, even as salaries for the rest of them have been frozen, as we reported in the month of June.

As of now, BSNL has decided to reduce upto 90% of the contract workers across India, as they have no money to pay their salaries.

This month, we reported that almost 80,000 or 50% of the BSNL employees will be asked to leave, as part of VRS scheme.

50% Of Pune BSNL Employees Will Lose Jobs

Meanwhile, employee union of BSNL in Pune have declared that if the compulsory VRS or Voluntary Retirement Scheme is actually implemented, then 50% of all employees will lose their jobs.

This was revealed by Bharatiya Telecom Employees Union BSNL in Pune.

Ganesh Mathpati, assistant general secretary, Bharatiya Telecom Employees Union BSNL, said, “The salaries were delayed for three months this year. The delay was in February, July and now August. The salaries are still pending. The government has asked BSNL to implement the VRS.”

As per the employee union, the total number of employees in BSNL Pune have already been reduced from 4300 in the year 2000 to 1800 right now.

In case VRM scheme becomes compulsory, then the number will be reduced to 900.

In case VRS is implemented by reducing the retirement age from 60 to 58, then BSNL will save almost Rs 2000 crore per year, and almost 33,000 employees will be forced to leave.
