Good News For Rail Passengers! 25% Discount Rolled Out For These Trains (10 Facts You Should Know)

As of now, the Indian Railways is set to roll out a 25% discount fare scheme for those trains which have low occupancy from next month. 

Railways Proposes 25% Discounted Scheme

In trains like Shatabdi Express, Tejas Express, Gatiman Express, Double Decker and Intercity trains among others, Indian Railways has decided to ward off 25% discount on such trains having low occupancy, from the upcoming month, which is September.

This is done with the target to bump up ticket sales. Once the scheme is in place, no other discounts such as the flexi-fare scheme or the graded discount in Shatabdi trains will be applicable.

1. Only those trains with monthly occupancy of less than 50% in the previous year are eligible for this 25% ticket discount scheme.
2. The discount to be offered can be up to 25% of the base fare.
3. Other charges like reservation fee, superfast charge, GST and others shall be applied separately.
4. Discounts will be given for the first leg and/or last leg of journey and/or intermediate sections and/or end to end journey.
5. Passengers shall also get the provision to make catering optional with the discounted fare.
6. This new discount scheme can find itself for either one complete year, part of the year, month wise, seasonal or for weekdays/weekend.
7. As per Railways, all zonal authorities have been directed to review the occupancy of all trains with Chair Car and Executive Class seating accommodation by the 30th of September 2019 and take suitable action.
8. This new discounted ticket scheme is aimed at improving occupancy and earnings.
9. It is further decided that the existing discounted scheme in following trains shall continue as per the existing discounted principles.
10. The 25% discount scheme will not be applicable on these trains already covering discounted schemes:

• 12007/12008 Chennai Central-Mysuru Shatabdi Express over Benguluru-Mysuru-Bengaluru section

• 12010 Ahemdabad-Mumbai Centra Shatabdi train over Ahemdabad-Vadodara section

• 12042 New Jalpaiguri-Howrah Shatabdi Express over Jalpaiguri-Malda town section
