This Kolkata Metro Station Has Become India’s Deepest Subway Station, Beating Chandni Chowk In Delhi!

The good news is that Kolkata will get a metro directly from Howrah Railway station, connecting them effortlessly to different parts of the city.

Howrah Metro Station to be the Deepest in the Country
Currently, Hauz Khas metro station in Delhi, with Magenta Line and Chawri Bazar metro station on Delhi Metro’s Yellow station are among the deepest metro stations in India. This is soon going to change and this time will benefit the people of Kolkata.
The station has already been structurally completed, from what we know. The first look of the Kolkata Metro’s Howrah station has been revealed by the Indian Railways. Howrah Junction railway station (HWH) is one of the country’s busiest railway stations. Similarly, Howrah metro station is a key station on the Kolkata Metro’s East-West corridor.
It will connect Howrah railway station to the metro network of Kolkata, easing it for passengers boarding or deboarding trains from Howrah station to commute different parts of the city.

Getting more in details about the speculated metro station, we will let you know that it will be an underground station, about 105 feet under the surface, with 5 slabs and 4 levels. Howrah metro station will also be connected to India’s first under-river metro tunnel.
This tunnel’s build up has already started and is being built beneath the distributary of Ganga- Hooghly river. There will also be a twin tunnel about 520 metre long that will be located 30 metre below the Hooghly riverbed. This tunnel will connect Howrah metro station and Mahakaran metro station.
Passengers travelling between these two stations will get to spend about a minute under the river. The speed of this metro train will be restricted to 80 kmph. Kolkata East-West Metro line is 16.6-km long and the project is speculated to be completed by 2021.
Hauz Khas and Chawri Bazar metro station in Delhi on the other hand, are located just 30 metre and 25 metre below ground level respectively.
