As per a newly published report, Bengaluru is the best city in India for students, whereas the world’s best city for students is the capital of the United Kingdom, London. London has made the cut as the best city for students in the world for the second time in a row now.
There are three other cities of India who have made it to the list of the top 120 cities in the world that are best for students. These three cities are Mumbai, Delhi, and Chennai.

Annual Report By the Quacquarelli Symonds: QS Best Student Cities Ranking 2019
This ranking of the cities has been done by Quacquarelli Symonds, which is a British company that specializes in education. This report, published annually, is titled as ‘QS Best Student Cities Ranking’.
The education consultancy ranks the top ten student cities based on a wide array of factors, that are grouped into six categories. These six categories are: University Rankings, Student Mix, Desirability, Employer Activity, and Affordability, and Student View.
Initially, the report was drafted only as per the first five categories. However, the opinion of students and recent graduates about the city has also been taken into consideration after 2017.
Four Cities Of India In The List of 120 Best Student Cities
India’s Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, and Chennai are the only four cities that found their place on the list. Bengaluru has been ranked 81st, Mumbai stands 85th, Delhi is at the 113th rank and Chennai is at 115th.
Ben Sowter, research director at QS, said, “..it is encouraging to see Bengaluru’s debut at the top of the national list and to see Mumbai growing in popularity among students. Both Delhi and Chennai perform very well on the affordability criterion.”
As per Sowter, affordability is a criterion that is necessary to maintain the internal demand for education at a University.
Globally, London topped the list of the top student cities, followed by Tokyo, Melbourne, Munich, and Berlin making the top five best student cities. London has scored excellent in almost all the categories bar the affordability one. In spite of that, the city has ranked top.
