Indian Railways is determined to make the overall experience of rail passengers even better, more world-class and top quality.

This is the reason that soon, the railway catering staff will soon provide all rail passengers with airlines-type hospitality, with etiquette and manners matching those of air-hostesses and flight stewards.

How will this happen?

Airline-type Hospitality In Trains!

Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has decided to upgrade the catering service in trains like Shatabdi Express, Rajdhani and Duronto to the standard of airlines.

Ministry of Skill Development has been assigned the task to train and skill 2000 rail catering staff, waiters from IRCTC food plaza and pantry staff with world-class hospitality standards, and even provide them with certificates.

Training content is being developed in accordance with airlines-type hospitality standards.

Strict Guidelines For Rail Catering Staff

To start with, rail catering staff will be asked to wear aprons, gloves, hair caps and masks while serving food to the rail passengers.

A strict code of conduct will be developed, which will instruct the catering staff to be well-groomed, wearing clean uniform, sporting name tags, smile on the lips, and polite talks.

Henceforth, rail catering staff will be forbidden from staring at the passengers while serving food, and tobacco products will strictly be banned for the staff, on or off the premise.

Simple basic hygiene habits such as washing hands before serving food will be strictly enforced and graphical diagrams and charts will be posted in the pantry cars.

Overall, there are more than 14 guidelines and pointers, which will be part of the curriculum for training the staff members, which will also be audited and checked in the trains.

A senior IRCTC official said, “A simple good morning or good evening can make a lot of difference,”

Earlier, IRCTC had made plans to introduce air-hostesses type rail-hostesses in premium trains like Rajdhani and Shatabdi Express.

The pilot project was initiated for Gatimaan Express between New Delhi and Agra, and it was proposed to be expanded to 9 new routes.
