As per the Center’s signature DigiYatra programme, Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport has initiated its Face Recognition (FR) system on a trial basis for passengers. Starting on 1st of July, Hyderabad International Airport has decided to extend this programme up till July 31.

Hyderabad International Airport has set another milestone by extending its ongoing trials of Face Recognition (FR) to passengers. In fact, the 1st day saw over 180 passengers volunteering themselves for the said trial of Digiyatra at the airport.

Facial Recognition Trials at Hyderabad Airport

The trials which are being carried out under Centre’s Digi Yatra programme started from July 1 and is estimated to carry further up till July 31. The airport has set up dedicated Facial Recognition registration counters near the domestic departure gates No. 1 and 3. One can register themselves for it from 8am to 8pm to experience a whole new digital experience and is completely voluntary.

Facial Recognition enrolment is a one-time activity and once the passenger is successfully enrolled, a unique DigiYatra ID is generated for the passenger and this is valid for subsequent travels during the trial period. Currently, the trials is being offered to passengers who travel with hand baggage and are flying to one of these select cities — Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada.

Trial Run For Face Recognition Starts

An exclusive Facial Recognition e-gate is available at different departure gates, like Departure Gate No. 3. Here, the FR-registered passenger can get their boarding card scanned, face the FR Camera, which matches and verifies the credentials along with the itinerary details. Upon successful verification, the e-gate will open instantly, allowing the passenger to enter into the Terminal.

Passengers must however, complete their whole check-in process before accessing the FR e-gate. As it is a trial phase, a CISF personnel will still physically verify the travel documents and ID details of the registered passenger at the departure gate. Digi Yatra would facilitate paperless travel and avoid identity check at multiple points.
