In a post at the start of the month, we informed you of how the Indian government had decided to install access control systems in major stations of Indian Railways, the likes of which will be similar to security arrangements across airports of the country, to avoid the chances of mishaps.

On a similar pedestal, the Indian Railways have decided to redevelop 22 of its major stations across the country, in order to match the world standards.

Renovation of Major Railway Stations

Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation (IRSDC) have signed two Memorandum of Agreements (MoAs), for the purpose of railway station redevelopment. It will redevelop and renovate a total of 22 railway stations in the country, to match the international standards.

The MoA signed between IRSDC and MECON Limited follows the redevelopment of 8 railway stations across the country including Bandra Terminus, Andheri, Chennai Egmore and Ranchi.

Another MoA was signed between IRSDC and two other Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSE)- Engineering Projects India Limited (EPIL) and Bridge and Roof, for the renovation of 14 railway stations including Kolkata Terminal, Kanpur Central, Kalyan Junction, Ludhiana, Hyderabad and Udaipur City.

The Project will Go Big!

According to IRSDC, these CPSEs will prepare detailed project reports on the development of these 22 stations and act as Project Management Consultant to IRSDC for the implementation of this railway renovation project. A total of six CPSEs have already been appointed to carry out the redevelopment work of as many as 41 railway stations in India.

This move by the government to renovate and redesign the whole railway station networks is expected to accelerate the station redevelopment initiatives that are being undertaken by the IRSDC. Six CPSEs have been selected and similar MoAs shall be signed shortly.
