Smartphone users are very loyal to their favorite brand, but when the time comes to replace them, people using Samsung devices have opted to change them faster than the average.

Yes, that’s true, and this is as per data published by Counterpoint Research, which goes on to say that people who use OnePlus are the ones who take a long time to replace their device, which is definitely a compliment about the company.

What does this research by Counterpoint say about the condition of the smartphone market in India? Read on to find out!

Counterpoint Research: Report and Findings

Counterpoint Research has drafted a report, India Premium Smartphone Consumer Survey, which studies the behavior of the Indian consumer when it comes to using and replacing smartphones, especially the users of the premium segment smartphones.

The report says that people who use Samsung smartphones opt for changing their devices faster than the average time, whereas OnePlus users hold on to their smartphones longer than the average time period. 

As per their findings, premium smartphone buyers who are presently using smartphones worth Rs. 20,000 or above are replacing their smartphones after about 25 months. 

For the report, a survey was conducted across the upper-mid and premium segment (priced above ?20,000) Android smartphone users, which were as much as 800 people from the top cities of India. 

Of these, half were keen on spending Rs. 40,000 or more on their next smartphone. One out of five respondents were interested in spending more than Rs. 60,000 and 8% of these were ready to spend a huge Rs. 80,000 on their next smartphone. 

Must-Have Features in a Smartphone

In-display fingerprint, facial recognition, dual or more cameras, and AI capabilities were the features that four out of 10 respondents wanted on their future premium smartphones. 

As per Tarun Pathak, Associate Director at Counterpoint Research, longer battery life along with fast charging, higher memory storage, new designs, and multiple cameras are among other features that will affect the decisions of future smartphone buyers.

He also said, “Punch hole displays and foldable displays are yet to make any significant impact on consumers’ minds in India.”

Indian Smartphone Market Growing at a Healthy Rate

The competition in the smartphone market of India is growing rapidly and there are numerous smartphone manufacturing companies competing against each other. On the plus side, this is a great time for consumers as they are in for a treat! There are a plethora of options to choose from, and each one better than the next, which is a huge pro for us consumers.

Pavel Naiya, Senior Analyst at Counterpoint Research is of the opinion that the smartphone market of India has been growing at a healthy rate. In the segment of the premium smartphones, Samsung and OnePlus are closely competing against each other. 

He also went on to say, “ Almost six out of 10 Samsung users are interested in replacing their smartphone within the next year. About four out of every 10 users of OnePlus plan to buy a new smartphone in the next year.”
