Rajdhani, Shatabdi Trains Will Have Jolt-Free, Smooth Travel Now; Corporatization Of Engine, Coach Manufacturing Initated

The Indian Railways is planning to make train rides bump-free, literally! Indian Railways has come up with a solution that will fix all the problems in the railway rides, and make sure that train rides are comfortable and smooth. 

Additionally, as a part of the 100-day plan recently rolled out by the Indian Railways, production units will now be privatized for the sake of boosting efficiency. Which means train coaches and locomotive factories will be corporatized.

Indian Railways To Use New CBCs in Trains

Even if you are travelling a premium train like the Rajdhani Express and Shatabdi Express, you will not be spared of the sudden jolts or the swaying motion that trains generally offer. This was blamed on a shortcoming and the instability of the coupler. 

Even walking through the aisles seems like a task in trains! 

But not anymore! The Indian Railways has retrofitted all its trains with a new version of the Centre Buffer Couplers (CBC). For those who don’t know what CBCs are, they are mechanisms that link coaches in a train.

Over 5000 coaches, including all 42 rakes of Rajdhani Express, have been retrofitted with new CBCs.

It has been twenty years since the railways of India have been using German-made Linke-Hoffmann-Busch (LHB), and finally, there is a solution to all that irritating swaying and jolts. 

Without making much fuss about the whole affair, the Indian Railways has sure won our hearts! 

Indian Railways Planning To Corporatize Production Units

As a part of the 100-day plan, led by Railway Minister Piyush Goyal, the Indian Railways is looking to bring about more productivity from railway engines, for which a new organization has been set up, which will be called the Indian Railway Rolling Stock Company. 

The main target is to produce high standard coaches and improved production of the locomotives. 

The Indian Railways will study its production units in detail, which are the Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW) in West Bengal, Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai, Rail Coach Factory (RCF) in Kapurthala, Diesel Modernization Works (DMW) in Patiala, Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW) in Varanasi, Wheel & Axle Plant in Bangalore, and Modern Coach Factory (MCF) in Rae Bareli. 

As per reports, each production unit will have a CEO, and will be an individual profit centre that will report to the Board/CMD of the new organization.
