India Becomes #1 In Data Usage, Globally: Every Smartphone In India Consumes 9.68 GB/Month Data!
It is no surprise that mobile video traffic is increasing at an exceptional rate, especially after telecom companies are giving such massive pocket friendly deals on them. The monthly data usage per smartphone in India has risen to 9.8 GB, as recorded at the end of 2018. This is the highest number of the kind in the world.
The Data Usage to Double by 2024
India is one of the hottest market for smartphone purchases and with technology spurring at a rapid rate, almost every second person owns at least one smartphone.
With an increase in the number of LTE subscriptions, attractive data plans offered by service providers and a gradual shift in population towards grasping video content, the monthly data usage has dramatically risen and marked a 9.8GB mark, the highest data consumption recorded in the world.
Online content today is being circulated vividly over videos for all sorts of purposes, including education, advertisement and entertainment, to name a few. In 2018, mobile data traffic per smartphone per month was 7 GB for North America, 6.7 GB for Europe, 3 GB for Middle East and Africa, 7.1 GB for northeast Asia and 3.6 GB for southeast Asia.
India, on the other hand topped that list though. The deal doesn’t fade off here, as this 9.8GB mark is expected to grow and it is estimated to grow at 11% CAGR, hitting 18 GB by 2024.
The Role of Technology: Major!
India is right now witnessing a data revolution, as price of per GB data has come down considerably, as all major telcos such as Airtel, Jio, Vodafone-Idea, and BSNL has brought in cheap data plans.
The report also specified that the total smartphone subscriptions in India is likely to reach 1.1 billion by 2024, while total mobile broadband subscriptions shall grow from about 610 million in 2018 to 1.25 billion in 2024.
Once 5G is introduced, it shall too play a significant role in raising these numbers. Interestingly, smartphone users in India are willing to pay more than 66% premium for 5G services and many expect their current service providers to switch to 5G, or after a wait of maximum six months, they shall shift to a provider that does.
