Google Maps wants itself to become the one-stop destination for all travel related needs for Indians, and they are actually killing it!

After launching support for Live Train status, bus routes and even autorickshaw suggestions, Google Maps will now help you stop drivers from taking the wrong route.

And the most interesting part? This unique service has been launched for Indians.

The Pain Point With Uber/Ola Drivers & Navigation In General

In case you have booked an Uber or Ola, and not going with the shared travel mode, then often it happens that the driver takes a wrong route to the destination.

This may happen because the driver wants to increase the travel time to increase his billing or any other sinister intention.

Google Maps will now tell if the drive is off-repeat

If you are new to the city, then you won’t have any idea, as previously, Google Maps simply changed the route to a new one, and if you are tracking it on own app, you won’t even feel the difference.

This may also happen when you are driving your own vehicle, and take a wrong route to the destination.

But not anymore.

Google Maps Will Alert You For The Wrong Route

Folks at Xda Developers have found a unique feature of Google Maps, which is certainly very useful to avoid the above-mentioned scenarios.

In case you are going from point A to point B, and after reaching a certain point, your vehicle deviates from the path, then Google Maps will give an alert.

As per the observations made, Google Maps will no longer reroute, but warn you about the new route.

This alert will come only when you have deviated atleast 500 meters from the original route.

This new feature will be very handy while hiring Uber or Ola: The riders can certainly stop the drivers from taking the wrong route, and safeguard themselves from higher charges, and other dangers.

Google Maps: New Features

Another new feature is the speed notification, on Google Maps.

Now, while navigating, Google Maps will showcase the speed of the vehicle, right on the Navigation map itself.

This new speed feature has been witnessed by users in Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Czech Republic, Portugal, Sweden, the UK, and the US.

We have already reported how Google Maps will now showcase live train status, which has been introduced in association with ‘Where Is My Train’ app, and also bus routes and autorickshaw suggestions.

We will keep you updated, as we receive more updates.
