Google Maps releases new updates

In one of the biggest updates for Google Maps, three new and very important features have been added for India users.

Google Maps will now cover every aspect of public transport, as users can now get live status of trains, know about bus timings and even get autorickshaw suggestions, right inside the app.

And aiding Google Maps in this endeavor is the popular train app ‘Where Is My Train’, which Google had acquired last year.

How will this work?

Live Train Status Inside Google Maps Now

From now on, whenever you wish to know the live running status of any train, all you need to do is:

  • Open Google Maps
  • Enter the source and the destination
  • Check all the trains which are running between them, right at this moment
  • Check the live status of any train
  • You can also know about delay of any train, right inside the app.

This unique feature has been developed in association with Where Is My Train app, which was acquired by Google last year. This app can give live status of any train, without even using Internet, and has more than 1.5 crore users right now.

Get Bus Timings Across 10 Major Cities

Users in 10 Indian cities: Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune, Lucknow, Chennai, Mysore, Coimbatore, and Surat, can now access live status of bus, via Google Maps.

This is one its first service launched in India.

Bus timings on Google Maps

Using live traffic data, public transport data and algorithms for traffic movement, Google Maps will now let the users be aware of expected arrival time of any bus, on any route.

Users can get bus schedules, information about delays and more information.

Google Maps users will be required to tap the transit tab for using this feature.

Get Autorickshaw Suggestions

While using public transport, there arise several instances when you are not aware whether you should take autorickshaw, or from where can you get one.

Now, Google Maps has introduced a unique autorickshaw suggestion mode for those who are using public transport.

The app will now automatically suggest the best possible route for going from source to the destination and suggest where you need to take the Metro, bus and where autorickshaw.

This feature can be rolled out in Delhi and Bengaluru, but will be soon available across other major cities as well.
