Jio, Airtel, Vodafone Join Forces To Stop Spam Calls, Messages: World’s Biggest Blockchain Use Case Created!

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) counts a billion mobile phone users in the country and these many individuals have been pampered by such calls and messages, not in a good way. To curb this situation, telecom operators like Vodafone Idea, Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel have tied up partnerships with blockchain-based technology companies, to wipe out pesky calls and messages from spammers.

Under TRAI’s new reforms to control pesky calls and SMSs from spammers, telecom giants in India have already partnered with blockchain based companies. If this initiative is pulled off, this deployment could be the world’s largest case of blockchain solution in telecom sector, in the world, with about a billion subscribers coming into effect.

To ensure the action successfully, Reliance Jio with a customer base of 307 million has connected is ties with Tech Mahindra, Bharti Airtel with more than 325 million users partnered with IBM and Vodafone Idea constituting over 395 million users partnered with Tanla solutions to carry forward this deployment.

With such a deployment, TRAI aims to to protect mobile phone subscribers from unsolicited commercial communication, or spam calls and messages. Once it is brought into action, subscribers will be able to set and manage their communication preferences, with the help of this technology. It will come into effect allegedly by this month end. Such a deployment will help companies arrest such spammers and frauds as well.

Beware Fraudulent and Spammers for the Penalties!

In such an expanding and booming market of blockchain management, blending it for the betterment of telecom sector, blockchain brings in vast advantages and services for the same. Currently, the global market for blockchain is about $500 million and it is expected to grow beyond $7 billion in the next three to four years.

TRAI has strongly recommended all the telecom sectors, including BSNL and smaller private companies as well, to cooperate and participate in this ecosystem. It has asked companies to keep a detailed check on spam calls and messages using blockchain technology and mandated subscriber consent to receive telemarketing messages. It has announced to penalize the telecom companies that do not comply to these rules, with an amount ranging from Rs 1,000 and Rs 50 lakh per violation in a month.
