Pixel 3a, Pixel 3a XL Launched: Despite Being Cheapest Pixel Flagships, They Are Expensive?

Addressing the crowd at the annual developers’ meet, Google I/O, Chief Executive Officer Sundar Pichai said “building for everyone” is a core philosophy for the company. However, despite being the cheapest Pixel smartphones ever, 3a and 3a XL fails to be that smartphone for everyone.

But, the big news: With the launch of Pixel 3a and 3a Xl, Google has entered the mid-range smartphone market in India.

The Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL—will launch in India on May 15 with prices starting at Rs 39,999 while in US the price is $399 (Rs 27,750) and $479 (Rs 33, 399) for Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL respectively. This makes them cheaper in the US, compared to India!

The affordability part of the 3a series is the question which needs some answers.

The Phones are available in 3 colours – Clearly white, Just black and Purple- ish.

Both online and Offline modes are chosen for sale.The company now supports Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint, U.S. Cellular, and Google Fi.

Display

The 3a’s 5.6-inch OLED screen will support 2,220 x 1,080 resolution with no notch. The larger 3a XL , 6-inch variant will come with 2,160 x 1,080 resolution and also skip out on a notch.

The body of the 3A and 3A XL  might feel like glass at first, but it’s actually polycarbonate, a high-end plastic.

Camera Quality

The pixel 3a and 3a XL will come with single lense 12.2 MP dual-pixel Sony IMX363 sensor with F1.8 aperture and PDAF with optical and electronic image stabilisation in both the phones.  There is a 8MP selfies camera in both the phones.

Along with that it has a feature of Portrait Mode,  Super Res Zoom, Night Sight that allows you to take detailed and colour photo even in dark.

The camera is one of its best feature considering it’s lower pricing compared to other pixel series.

Storage and Battery

Google Photos is built in, so you can save all your photos and videos with free, unlimited storage.

And it comes with an 18-watt charger so you get up to seven hours of battery life on a 15-minute charge and up to 30 hours on a full charge. Pixel’s Adaptive Battery learns your favorite apps and reduces power to the ones you rarely use.

Google Assistant and Security

Your Google Assistant can send texts, find answers, get commute times, set reminders, and more by simply using your voice

Also, Google’s Assistant Call Screen feature gives information about caller before you pick up .

The drawback for these phones are:

  • The Display does not stretch from top to bottom.
  • No wireless charging.
  • Mid-range processor.
  • No MicroSD slot.
  • Splash and rain resistant, but not waterproof.

Despite the claims of being affordable, the prices still remain an issue and can be tough to sell in a market like India where there are other good alternatives.

With the upcoming launch of Oneplus 7 series, Google might find it hard to sell the phone as an affordable flagship.
