Facebook Secret Crush
Exactly a year ago, during Facebook’s annual F8 conference, a new dating feature was announced which took everyone by surprise.
At that time, it was launched only for one country: Colombia.
Now, after a year, Facebook has announced the expansion of Facebook dating to 19 countries, and have given an overview of how it will basically work.
In the US, Facebook dating will be launched later this year.
Facebook Dating: How Will It Work?
Given that the feature is based off of dating, Facebook is following the footsteps of Tinder and Bumble. The one added bonus is that it will be completely free of advertisements and other paid content.
First and foremost, you have to be 18 years and above to enjoy the benefits of Facebook Dating. You can choose up to nine friends on whom you have a crush. If any of the selected friends add you back, you’ll be notified about the match. However, the people that you select have to use Facebook Dating too.
Like we said, the whole ‘affair’ is not much different from Tinder.
Users who go for Facebook Dating will have a separate profile for dating and Facebook will use its algorithms to suggest potential crushes based on their likes, interests, activities, and preferences.
There is no left swipe or right swipe though; users will have the option to be ‘interested’ or ‘pass’ on the profiles that are received.
Does Your Country Have Facebook Dating?
On Tuesday, Facebook announced that this feature will be activated in around 19 countries, viz. Paraguay, Colombia, Canada, Argentina, Mexico, Brazil, Ecuador, Vietnam, Guyana, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Uruguay, Laos, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Singapore, and Suriname.
The dating service of Facebook has not been launched in the US and the UK yet, but will probably be available at the end of this year.
About launching the app in the US, Fidji Simo, the Head of the Facebook app said, “We really want to make sure that the product is really answering all of the needs people have before rolling it out to the US. It will come, but just not right away.”
At the event, F8, Mark Zuckerberg has also said that this service is “not just for hookups” but to build “meaningful, long-term relationships.”
Launching a secret crush service for Facebook friends does make it seem like FB is focussing hard on the dating niche!
