To celebrate AI Day, chip manufacturer Qualcomm launched three new mid-end chips for budget and entry-premium smartphones. These are: Snapdragon 665, Snapdragon 730 and Snapdragon 730G.

All these chips mainly focus on camera, gaming and AI.

Snapdragon 665 and Snapdragon 730, will soon be powering the mid-range smartphones with special focus on camera and performance, while Snapdragon 730G focuses primarily on gaming performance.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 665: Features & Specs

Snapdragon 665 will be succeeding the much-popular Snapdragon 660. Based on a 11nm process, the new upgraded Snapdragon 665 will come with an Kryo 260 octa-core CPU paired with Adreno 610 GPU. The 610 GPU will come with Vulcan 1.1 support.

Coming to the primary built, the CPU on Snapdragon 665 will come with four performance Cortex-A73 cores clocked at 2.0GHz coupled with four efficiency Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.8GHz.

The Snapdragon 660 successor will come with the new third-gen Qualcomm AI Engine which will help the SoC to offer 2X faster AI processing.

Coming to optics, the new Snapdragon chip supports camera resolution up to 48-megapixels with support for triple camera setups and 5X optical zoom.

Smartphones can use the chip to mix up a three camera combination with a telephoto lens, wide-angle and super-wide angle lens. Snapdragon 665 will support portrait mode with HDR, 4K video capture, HD (240fps) slow-motion video capture and 3D face unlock using the front camera.

It will support all the standard connectivity features like dual 4G VoLTE with dual standby, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac. It will have a Qualcomm X12 LTE modem with support for download speeds up to 600Mbps and upload speeds up to 150Mbps.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 730: Features & Specs

Coming to other mid-range chip, Snapdragon 730 is built on an 8nm process. Successor to Snapdragon 710, the chipset comes with Kryo 470 octa-core CPU paired with Adreno 618 GPU. To offer better performance, the chip will come with two big performance Cortex-A76 cores.

The former is clocked at 2.2GHz and the six efficiency Cortex-A55 cores are clocked at 1.8Ghz.

Snapdragon 730 too will also support triple-camera system with a single 48-megapixel sensor. The SoC also supports upto 192 megapixels for a single sensor in snapshot mode. It can capture 4K videos in portrait mode high-resolution depth sensing at 60fps.

Snapdragon 730 SoC comes with support for Apt-X adaptive codec, fouth-gen Qualcomm AI engine and a Wi-Fi 6 ready modem. This will help Snapdragon 730 smartphones to offer enhanced AI performance.

In terms of connectivity, it comes equipped with Snapdragon X15 LTE modem with support for Cat.15 (800Mbps download) and Cat.13 (150Mbps upload).

Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G: Features & Specs

The company launched a special variant of Snapdragon 730 focused on gaming features. Snapdragon 730G will share similar features and specs as it’s original version with the same CPU configuration, GPU and connectivity options.

Snapdragon 730G will only have additional features to enhance gaming performance.

It will offer 15 percent faster GPU rendering for faster refresh rate and HQ gaming experience. There’s also a Wi-Fi latency monitor and jank reducer to smoothen up the overall gaming experience.

Snapdragon 730G will come with HDR gaming support to offer 10-bit color depth wth Rec 2020 color gamut. It can offer over 1 billion shades of color. The company claimed that it can offer 35 percent faster CPU performance and 25 percent faster graphics rendering compared to the existing Snapdragon 710 SoC.

Coming to optics, the cameras will support triple-camera system with a single 48-megapixel sensor. The SoC also supports upto 192 megapixels for a single sensor in snapshot mode and supports 960fps slow-motion video recording at HD resolution.

The latest chipsets will be available for OEMs and manufacturers in a month, so smartphones running on these chips will will be available by mid-2019.
