After TRAI forced Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) to reveal TV viewership data for all channels, some interesting and shocking results have come out.
Dangal TV, owned by Enterr10 Television Pvt. Ltd., has become India’s most popular TV channel, even beating the likes of Star Sports Hindi where IPL is being broadcasted.
Aaj Tak has emerged as India’s most popular news channel.

BARC Data: Dangal Is India’s Most Popular Channel
BARC finally released the TV viewership data for Week 13, that is March 23rd to March March 26th data, and the results have shocked everyone.
Dangal TV has become India’s #1 TV channel, based on viewership, as it generated 1,164 million Impressions, a record for any channel in India. This way, Dangal beats Star Sports 1 Hindi, which generated 1,095 million Impressions.
Star Sports 1 Hindi’s 1.09 million impressions is also a record in itself, as no other channel, especially pay channel has been able to churn out this number till now.
Dangal TV started on as Bhojpuri channel, which transformed itself into a Hindi entertainment channel now.
Dangal’s Success: Rural and Urban Both
Dangal’s success can be attributed to the fact that it’s one of the channels offered under the bouquet under DD’s Freedish DTH service. It became big after channels such as Zee Anmol, Rishtey, Star Utsav and Sony Pal withdrew from the Freedish bouquet.
Dangal has not only topped Rural market, but also urban market, giving a tough fight Zee and Star networks, which traditionally topped the charts.
If we talk about Urban market, then Star is the #1 network.
Biggest News Channel Is Aajtak In India
Meanwhile Aajtak has broken all records, and emerged as #1 news channel in India, beating India TV, Zee News and Republic TV. The channel generated close to 170,000 impressions, way more than 140,000 impressions of India TV and 117,000+ impressions of Zee TV.
Overall, pay channels generated more than 400 million impressions, which is almost the same as the previous cable TV regime days.
