Indian Railways Breaks All Records!

Indian Railways has produced over 6000 train coaches in the financial year of 2018-2019. These coaches have been produced by the three production factories of Indian Railways, which are Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Modern Coach Factory (MCF) and Rail Coach Factory (RCF) and the grand total is 6037 coaches.

For the financial year of 2017-2018, the number of coaches produced was 4470, which was high, but not as much. There has been a massive 35% growth in production of coaches by Indian Railways, led by Rail Minister Piyush Goyal.

Indian Railways has always supported the Make in India movement through various initiatives, one fine example of which is the engineless train, Train 18, is fully Make in India.

Integral Coach Factory (ICF): World’s Largest Rail Builder

Apparently, all the aforementioned factories have been able to reach this limit despite being forced to explore the production of coaches outside their comfort zone, including pantry cars, power cars, MEMU (Mainline Electric Multiple Unit), LHB (Linke Hofmann Busch), EMU (Electric Multiple Unit). In addition to this, the factories have also been working on newer projects like Train-18 Vande Bharat Express.

The biggest highlight – Chennai based ICF has emerged the world’s largest rail car builder. It has beaten China’s manufacturers whose annual production is around 2600 coaches per year.

Modern Coach Factory (MCF) Beats Assigned Target

MCF, based out of Raebareli has shouldered the production of 1425 coaches in total and has surpassed its target which was 1422. Which means, there has been a stellar 100% growth in production, as last years number was 711 coaches produced against the target of 710 coaches.

As per reports, the factory manufactured some new types of coaches, such as AC Pantry (Hot Buffet) Car, Under Slung Power Car, Non Air-Conditioned Chair Car and Track Recording Car for RDSO (Research Design and Standards Organisation).

MCF produced 152 coaches in the month of January, and also crossed another milestone when the factory achieved its highest ever monthly production.
