Let’s begin.

Does Redmi Go At Rs 4,499 Justify Its Price? Specs Breakdown

Redmi Go will go against the likes of JioPhone 2, Nokia 1, Samsung Galaxy J2 Core and Micromax Bharat Go.

Old Design & Display Technology

The smartphone comes with a plastic back. It’s a very basic design with a similar body as the Redmi 5A. The smartphone comes with thick bezels on the sides with nothing to out for. One may say it’s too much to ask for, but there are basic smartphones with features like 18:9 widescreen display and dual cameras under 5,000 bucks.

Though if someone plans to use a basic Xiaomi for the first time, Redmi Go won’t be a bad choice.

Redmi Go sports a 5-inch HD display with screen resolution of 720p and aspect ratio of 16:9.

Similar Specs As Redmi 5A

In terms of hardware, Redmi Go features the same processor as the Redmi 5A. Redmi Go is a spin-off of the much-loved Desh Ka Smartphone, Redmi 5A. The smartphone runs on the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 chipset.

Unlike Redmi 5A, the phone comes in only one variant with 1GB RAM and 8GB of internal storage. The memory can further be expanded up to 128GB via microSD card.

4G, Dual Sim Support & 8MP Rear Sensor

Redmi Go comes with Dual SIM support with 4G compatibility. The smartphone comes with a single 8MP sensor paired with LED flash Up front, Redmi Go packs a single 5MP camera. The smartphone is backed by a 3,000mAh battery, capable of running a whole day on moderate usage.

It comes with all standard features like Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS, and all required sensors.

Android Go With Pie

Redmi Go is first ever Android Go phone from Xiaomi. The smartphone runs on Google’s Android Go program, the toned-down version of regular Android. The smartphone can run different Go apps with all the stripped-down features of the Android Pie.

Redmi Go also supports 1080p Full HD video recording, unlimited Google photo backup, and HD video calling.

Language Support & Mi Pay Integration

The smartphone supports more than 20 languages, just like JioPhone. Redmi Go comes with Google Assistant Hindi, English and Hinglish. Mi-Pay has been launched in the country along with Redmi Go. Mi-Pay payment service is going to be an all-in-one payments solution for Xiaomi users.

Mi-Pay will be available on all the Xiaomi phones running MIUI including the new Redmi Go.

Targeting First Time Smartphone Buyers

With Redmi Go, Xiaomi aims to target the first time smartphone buyers and primarily rural users. Though for an urban or a semi-urban market, the price sounds normal, in a rural market, the cost may seem overpriced.

There are some great basic smartphones available under Rs 4,000 and even Rs 3,000.

So if the company targeted the rural market with Redmi Go, the price may not suit the market at all.

Redmi Go will go on sale on March 22 via Flipkart, Mi Home stores and Mi.com. While there are other great options available at the same price, Redmi Go won’t disappoint you either!
