The launch of Redmi 7 at such pricing has again put the focus back on Xiaomi. The company already surprised all with it’s latest Redmi Note 7 and Note 7 Pro pricing in the country.

While Redmi 7 is still a few weeks away, the hype has started to jump up.

The newly separated Xiaomi sub-brand has been doing extremely well since Redmi Note 7 launch in January. The company will also be officially unveiling Redmi Go smartphone in the country today.

Both the smartphones come at very similar pricing backed by an almost same set of specs.

Design & Built

The new Xiaomi Redmi 7 has a special hydrophobic P2i coating on the out helping the smartphone to be safe against water spills. It’s a refreshing design on the out backed by a new polycarbonate body.

Asus Zenfone Max M2 features a premium metal body design on the out and is comfortable to hold.

Both the smartphones feature a great design technology, with Redmi 7 offering an added advantage with a hydrophobic coating on the out.

Display

Both the smartphones come with HD-only IPS LCD displays. Redmi 7 features a 6.26-inches HD+ dot notch display with a screen resolution of 720 x 1520 pixels with a 269 PPI.

On the other hand, Zenfone Max M2 features a 6.3-inches HD+ display with a first generation wide notch with a screen resolution of 720 x 1520 pixels with a 267 PPI.

Both the displays are vibrant and colorful, though Redmi offers higher screen space with a smaller notch.

Hardware

Both the smartphones, Xiaomi Redmi 7 and Asus Zenfone Max M2 run on an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 clocked at 1.8 GHz with upto 4GB RAM. Built on a 14nm process, the SoC can run apps and moderately heavy games with ease.

Each of them can carry out memory-heavy applications, multiple tasks and mid-end games without any trouble.

Storage

Redmi 7 is available in three storage versions: 2GB RAM with 16GB storage, 3GB RAM with 32GB storage and 4GB RAM with 64GB storage. In India, only the last two versions are expected.

Asus Zenfone Max M2 is available in two models: 3GB RAM with 32GB storage and 4GB RAM with 64GB storage.

Both the smartphones support expandable storage via a dedicated microSD slot.

Software

Redmi 7 runs Android 9 Pie out of the box with MIUI 10 running on top. On the other hand, Asus Zenfone Max M2 runs on Android 8.1 Oreo offering a stock Android experience.

Redmi 7 has the latest Pie, but MIUI has a lot of bloatware loaded with ads.

Asus Max M2, on the other hand, has almost zero-bloatware. Also, Android Pie update for Max M2 has been confirmed by the company by mid-April.

Camera

Redmi 7 features a rear dual camera system offering a primary 12MP sensor coupled with a 2MP depth sensor with an f/2.2 aperture. In comparison, Asus Zenfone Max M2 sports a 13MP primary sensor coupled with a 2MP secondary sensor with an f/1.8 aperture.

The brighter focal aperture will help Zenfone to offer slightly better pictures.

In terms of videography, Redmi 7 can record 1080p videos at 60 fps, a feature missing on Max M2. Both smartphones come with an 8MP sensor up front.

Battery

Both Redmi 7 and Asus Zenfone Max M2 come equipped with a very efficient Snapdragon 632 chipset. As both come with 4,000mAh battery units, each can easily run for more than a day on a single charge on moderate usage.

Redmi 7 ships with an 18W fast charging brick, unlike Asus Zenfone Max M2.

Both Redmi 7 and Asus Zenfone Max M2 are great smartphones at their respective prices. While there’s a single limitation only and it’s the HD-only display, and both has it. So, if we compare them straight, Asus Zenfone Max M2 has some added features like a thin body and a front-facing flash.

While Redmi 7 has a new hydrophobic coating design with a dot notch display compared to the wide notch on the Asus Max M2.

Heads on, Asus Zenfone Max M2 has a slightly better camera and flawless UI offering a near-stock Android experience.

If Xiaomi wants to beat Max M2 in India, it has to price it’s Redmi 7 very aggressively in the country, maybe at Rs 7,499 or Rs 7,999.
