Internet and smartphones have taken over the world and internet packs have become a necessity. Various telecom companies are competing against each other to see who offers better plans and at low rates. The world’s cheapest mobile data packs are in India as per a newly conducted study.

Is Jio’s unbelievably cheap rates the reason behind the drastic change in internet packs?? Read on to know more!

The Study By Cable.co.uk

This study is conducted by Cable.co.uk, by collecting data from 6313 mobile data plans across 230 countries over a period of around one month, October 23 to November 28, 2018, to be exact.

As per the report, Indians pay an average of Rs. 18 for one gigabyte of data, whereas, the global average is Rs. 600. India has a total of 430 million smartphone users and follows China closely.

The report says, “A country whose young population has a particularly high technological awareness, India offers a vibrant smartphone market, with strong adoption and many competitors. Data, therefore, is quite staggeringly cheap.”

For the market in India, the researchers working on the report studied 57 plans and came to the conclusion that for users in India, 1 GB of data is available for Rs. 1.41 at minimum and Rs. 98.33 at the maximum level.

Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Jio is the company from where cheap rates of mobile data packs commenced and we Indians probably owe it to Jio for such cheap and pocket-friendly rates.

Rates By Other Countries For 1 GB Data

India is followed by Kyrgyzstan, where citizens pay only $0.27 for 1 GB of data, Kazakstan offers the same at $0.49, Ukraine at $0.51, and Rwanda at $0.56 only.

In the United Kingdom, 1 GB of data costs $6.66 and in the United States, the 1 GB of data is priced at $12.37.

Zimbabwe is the country where the internet plans are costliest. In Zimbabwe, citizens have to pay as much as $75.20 on an average for only 1 GB of data.

Dan Howdle, who is the website’s telecom analyst, said, “Despite a healthy UK marketplace, our study has uncovered that EU nations such as Finland, Poland, Denmark, Italy, Austria and France pay a fraction of what we pay in the UK for similar data usage. It will be interesting to see how our position is affected post-Brexit.”

In western Europe, Finland offers the cheapest data at $1.16 for 1 GB. The data pack rates of Denmark, Monaco, and Italy are below $2. Whereas, in Eastern Europe, Poland offers $1.32 for 1 GB, followed by Romania at $1.89 and Slovenia at $2.21.
