PUBG, Fortnite Declared Unsafe By Delhi Child Rights Commission; Is Ban The Only Way Now?

With the way PUBG has gained popularity, it seemed that it would be here for long. But, with the condemn it has attracted from the public, politicians of India, that is probably about to change. Delhi Child Rights body has said that several video games, including PUBG, are negative and cause adverse effects on children’s brains.

The content of these video games is inappropriate for children as it promotes violence and aggression. Youngsters have reached drastic levels of addiction to these games and are completely messing up their priorities.

DCPCR’s Wise Words

The Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR) has tagged a few video games as harmful to children. Player Unknown Battlegrounds (PUBG), Fortnite, Grand Theft Auto, God of War, Hitman, Plague Inc, and Pokemon are some of the games that have been blackmarked.

An advisory on the board said, “There are several games in which children can murder zombies or drive vehicles at boisterous speeds. These games are full of misogyny, hate, deceit and vengeance and it may negatively impact their brain.”

The advisory was sent out as a precautionary measure, taking into consideration the “reports of accidents caused by these games in Gujarat and Mumbai.”

As per reports, DCPCR has also advised DoE (the Directorate of Education) to ask schools to spread the awareness of the harmful effects of these video games.

PUBG induces mental imbalance

A fitness trainer in Jammu suffered from mental imbalance due to playing excessive PUBG. On completing one round, he started harming himself to the point that he had to be admitted to the hospital.

PUBG leads teen to kill self

In an unbelievable turn of events, Nadeem Sheikh, of Mumbai, ended his life because his family did not heed to his demands of a high-end smartphone which cost Rs. 37,000. He wanted the smartphone for the sole purpose of playing PUBG. While the family agreed on an amount of Rs. 20,000, Sheikh did not choose to give up on his demands, rather chose to give up on his life.

PUBG banned in Gujarat

Gujarat has become the first state in India to impose a ban on PUBG, it is a possibility that all the states of India might follow suit. The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has advised all the states of India to ban the game so that children will be able to focus on their priority – studies and progress.

While video games are a great way of relaxation and studies have also proved that they are a surefire way to increase work productivity, it is very necessary that they are played in moderation.
