JioRail App Launched: 40 Million JioPhone Users Can Now Book Train Tickets From Their Feature Phone

A big breakthough has been announced for more than 40 million JioPhone users: Now, they can book train tickets from their 4G VoLTE feature phone!

JioRail App Launched

Reliance Jio has partnered with IRCTC, and launched a new JioRail app for booking tickets online. IRCTC manages and run the IRCTC.co.in website, which is India’s largest ticketing platform and is available via desktop, Android and iOS platforms.

Now, JioPhone would be the next big platform where IRCTC’s online train booking facility would be available.

In a statement, Jio said, “Train ticket booking has been made quite simple on the JioRail app. With this unique service, India’s consumers can avoid standing in long queues or pay agent fees to book tickets and instead enjoy an enhanced digital life experience”.

JioRail App On KaiOS Platform

The app: JioRail will essentially work on KaiOS, which is the new mobile operating system which powers JioPhones all over India.

Hence, IRCTC had to develop a special app which can work on KaiOS, because their existing mobile app was designed only for Android, iOS and Windows OS.

KaiOS also powers Nokia 8110 4G, and it is being speculated that the JioRail app should work on this mobile phone as well.

KaiOS is a Google-funded project, and Jio has made sure that popular apps such as Whatsapp, Google Maps, Facebook etc accessible for KaiOS users.

KaiOS has already beaten iOS in India, and the sale of KaiOS powered JioPhones is growing at an astonishing pace right now.

It is estimated that more than 40 million people in India are using KaiOS powered JioPhones right now, and IRCTC’s decision to launch a separate app for JioPhone users makes perfect sense as well.

JioRail App: What Can Be Done?

JioRail app is empowered with the same functionality, which IRCTC’s website and mobile apps has.

Using JioRail app, users can:

• Book train ticket
• Cancel train tickets
• Make online payments for their train tickets via debit cards, credit cards and e-wallets
• Check PNR status
• Book Tatkal tickets
• Check a train’s current position
• Seat availability
• In future, this app will also have facility to book meals, changing boarding stations and more

How To Get JioRail App:

• Use JioPhone or JioPhone 2 to open Jio App Store
• Download JioRail app
• Create a user-account (functionality to use app without user-registration is not present as of now)
• Choose an activity like Book tickets, Enquire about seats, PNR status etc etc
