Huawei has unveiled their latest, and the fastest 5G chipset called Balong 5000. As per incoming reports, this can give speed upto 6.5 Gbps, when used on mmWave spectrum.

This is 10-times faster than current 4G LTE download speed, on an average.

Huawei has also announced the launch of their 5G smartphones, which can be foldable.

Besides, Huawei has also launched TIANGANG, which is hailed as World’s first core-chip for 5G base stations.

Huawei 5G Chipset: Balong 5000 Launched

During a 5G event organized by Huawei in China, they have launched their latest, and fastest 5G chipset called Balong 5000.

This is essentially a modem, which will most probably power their next-generation processors Kirin 985 and 990. This has not been confirmed by Huawei yet.

However, Huawei has confirmed that Balong 5000 5G, multi-mode chipset will be used to power Huawei’s first 5G smartphone. This will be launched during Mobile World Congress this year, which is happening next month in Barcelona.

Balong 5000: USPs

The biggest USP of Balong 5000 multi-mode chipset is its speed.

At sub-6 GHz, this can unleash a speed of 4.6 Gbps, while at mmWave spectrum, this chipset can give a speed of 6.5 Gbps, which is almost 10-times of current 4G LTE speed levels.

Since Balong 5000 is multi-mode, it will also support other devices besides smartphones. As per reports coming in, Balong 5000 will support home broadband devices, vehicle-mounted devices and 5G modules as well.

Balong 5000 has been engineered to support 2G, 3G, 4G as well as 5G.

In a statement, Huawei said that the new chipset ‘reduces latency and power consumption’ and ‘significantly enhances user experience in early stages of commercial 5G deployment’.

Huawei has announced that Balong 5000 is world’s 1st chipset which supports both standalone and non-standalone 5G architectures.

World’s 1st Chipset For 5G Basestations Launched

In the same event, Huawei has also launched ‘TIANGANG’, which has been declared as world’s 1st core chip, designed specifically for 5G base stations.

This chip can support both simplified as well as large-scale 5G deployment.

Huawei has announced that they have already finalized 30 commercial 5G contracts, and more than 25000 5G base stations have been shipped, worldwide.

Few USPs of ‘TIANGANG’:

  • This chip is highly integrated. This means that it will support large scale integration of active power amplifiers (PAs) and passive antenna arrays
  • Super high computing power, which is 2.5 times more than current 5G chips for base stations
  • It supports 200 MHz high spectral bandwidth, which no other 5G chip for base station does
  • It will take 50% less time to install and deploy.

We will keep you updated, as more details come in.
