Hence, Thrissur has now become the largest city with BSNL’s 4G coverage.

As of now, BSNL is using 2100 MHz spectrum for delivering 4G coverage. This spectrum is known as Band 1, and earlier, this was used for 3G network coverage.

BSNL also owns Band 41, which will be used for delivering 4G services in highly congested circles.

Free 2 GB For 4G SIM Upgrade

BSNL users need to pay Rs 20 for getting a new 4G SIM, which can be used to access their 4G coverage pan-India, and even abroad.

Once a user gets a new 4G SIM, BSNL will give 2 GB extra, for free.

This is a special introductory offer to invite more 4G usage and 4G adaption by their users.

BSNL has repeatedly stated that in case users don’t have 4G SIM, then their old SIM will automatically connect with 2G or 3G coverage.

BSNL’s 4G Journey Till Now

Although Thrissur is the biggest city in Kerala to get 4G coverage, it is not the first one.

They started with 4G testing in Idukki district of Kerala, and they used existing 3G spectrum for that. A new brand identity was also announced, to spread more awareness about their 4G services.

It is expected that BSNL’s 4G will expand into Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Kozhikode in February.

In between, BSNL also expanded into some regions of Chennai and Karnataka, and even Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.

BSNL’s 4G speed has already been declared on par with Airtel and Jio, in some remote testing.

All eyes are now set on BSNL to announce a nation-wide rollout of 4G, which can give some tough fight to Airtel and Jio, Vodafone-Idea.
