In an interesting research done by Counterpoint, it has been revealed that in India ‘purchase intention’ is higher for Chinese brands like Xiaomi and OnePlus, compared to biggest tech company, Apple.

This means that more people are now interested to buy smartphones from Xiaomi and OnePlus, and this is a warning sign for Apple.

Xiaomi, OnePlus Preferred More Than Apple

As per the research, Xiaomi is the most preferred brand when it comes to smartphones in India. When asked which brand they will prefer for buying their next phone, Xiaomi was the #1 choice.

Samsung is at #2.

OnePlus, which is slowly and gradually conquering the premium smartphone niche in India was placed at #3, thereby beating brands like Apple, Oppo, Vivo and Honor.

In term of satisfaction index, OnePlus scored 94% and in terms of retention, OnePlus scored 88% marks.

Regional Divide Of Smartphones

Interestingly, in the Southern states like Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala, Vivo scored more satisfaction points, compared to both OnePlus and Xiaomi. This means Vivo customers are more happy from South, than in North.

In Maharashtra, OnePlus scored more satisfaction.

However, when it comes to North, then Xiaomi is the #1 player in satisfaction index.

The Price Divide In India

When it comes to budget segment, that is smartphones in the range of Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000, then one in three users are interested to buy a new phone, very soon.

In this segment, Xiaomi is the #1 player, beating all others.

However, when it comes to Rs 25,000 to Rs 40,000 segment, then no one can beat OnePlus, which is dominating this segment since last one year.

For purchases above Rs 45,000, Apple is the #1 option, beating Samsung and other brands.

Recently, it was revealed that Indians spent Rs 50,000 crore on Chinese smartphones. This amount was spent on 4 main Chinese brands: Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi and OnePlus. This clearly showcases the reach and popularity of Chinese brands in the Indian smartphone market.
