Airtel Will Stop 3G Services?

Airtel’s Chief executive Gopal Vittal has hinted that very soon, they will stop 3G services, and offer only 2G and 4G services.

And the work has already begun.

The premium 900 Mhz band, which is right now used for 2G voice services, will be shifted over to provide 4G services, whose usage and demand both are increasing.

2G will be only provided via 1800 Mhz band, and 900 Mhz bands will be tuned in only for 4G services. This leaves no space for 3G services, and as per the indications, 3G can be entirely stopped in the next few months.

He said that “the demise of 3G technology is rapidly drawing near” as revenues from 3G is falling down, and 4G is increasing.

The usage of 900 Mhz spectrum for 4G has already started in Karnataka and the same would be now deployed all over the nation. The deployment will“vary circle-wise and hinge on the degree of revenues emanating from 2G services”
