World's First Blockchain-Based Smartphone Launched

The blockchain movement is gaining momentum, all over the world. This magical technology has now invaded diamond industry, as world’s largest diamond seller, De Beers will now use blockchain for tracking their sales and production.

Meanwhile, world’s first smartphone has been launched based on the blockchain.

The future looks exciting!

Blockchain-Based Smartphone: Motif!

Blacture Ltd and mobile blockchain OS developer Zippie Ltd have launched world’s first blockchain-based smartphone, called Motif.

Using blockchain, this phone will reward users for their app usage, online purchases and convert these rewards into digital coins.

Users of this phone can then use these digital coins for any purchase or money transfer.

This phone has been conceptualized and launched by Pras Michel, who is a Grammy and Emmy award-winning entertainer and humanitarian.

He said,

“Everyone has a phone and I mean everyone. Bearing that in mind, we looked for the best technology to improve lives. That’s why we are launching this smartphone as it’s the first that’s designed with the Culture in mind. It’s the first phone that actually pays the user back.”

Priced between $350 and $400, Motif has full HD screen and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 Octa Core processor and a 16-megapixel camera.

The Motif was launched at the University of Pittsburgh.

The OS which powers this phone: Zippie OS works along with Android. The makers of this OS had recently launched their own digital token called ZIPT.

Blockchain Now Invades Diamond Industry!

Meanwhile, De Beers, the leading diamond manufacturers and sellers have announced that they will now use blockchain for tracking diamonds.

This way, for the first time, blockchain will be used in the diamond industry.

CEO of De Beers Group Bruce Cleaver said,

“This is a significant breakthrough made achievable by the close engagement of the pilot participants who share our commitment to industry progress and innovation…”

De Beers has created a blockchain based tracking system called Tracr, which assigns a unique ‘Global Diamond ID’ to every piece of diamond.

Anyone can track the journey of a diamond from mines to the showroom, using Tracr as it will have diamond’s main characteristics: carat, clarity, and colour stored.

Very soon, Tracr would be available to all diamond traders, merchants, manufacturers who wish to use blockchain for more transparency, and more clarity.

De Beers has collaborated with 5 leading diamond manufacturers: Diacore, Diarough, KGK Group, Rosy Blue NV and Venus Jewel for this initiative.

This is a significant development, considering that diamonds are prone to fraud and scams, and it is very difficult to track the authenticity of any diamond, especially today when plastic and lab-grown diamonds are threatening to demolish this industry.
