Aadhaar Not Mandatory For NEET Exam! March 31 Deadline Can Be Extended!

In a major relief to thousands of aspiring doctors, engineers and professionals, the Govt. has made it clear that Aadhaar is not a mandatory requirement for any All-India exam.

Meanwhile, indications are coming in, which state that the deadline of Aadhaar linking with services such as mobiles, PAN, Licence etc can be extended.

The last date as of now is March 31, 2018.

Govt: Aadhaar Not Mandatory For Exams!

A five-judge Constitution bench, headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra has ordered CBSE to inform all students, that Aadhaar is not a mandatory requirement for appearing in any All-India examination.

The matter was discussed in the Supreme Court after Gujarat resident Abid Ali Yusuf Bhai Patel challenged CBSE’s order to link Aadhaar cards of all students, who wish to appear for NEET Exams.

Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducts National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) examination for the undergraduate medical course and had ordered that only those students who have their Aadhaar linked with their admit cards can appear for the exam.

Abid Ali Yusuf Bhai Patel’s niece is a NEET aspirant, and the last date was March 9th.

As per Supreme Court’s order, students can use any valid identification for appearing in NEET or any other all-India examination.

Earlier, in the same case, The Unique Identification Authority of India or UIDAI had informed the apex Court that they had never asked CBSE to mandate Aadhaar for students.

March 31 Deadline Can Be Extended!

Meanwhile, during the hearing of the same case in Supreme Court, Centre has informed that the last date of Aadhaar linking ‘can be extended’.

Attorney General K K Venugopal, who is representing the Govt, said: “We have extended the deadline in the past and we will extend the deadline again but we may do it by the end of month to enable the petitioners in the case conclude the arguments,”

A five-judge Constitution bench comprising Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices A K Sikri, A M Khanwilkar, D Y Chandrachud and Ashok Bhushan has accepted the arguments, and noted the statement.

It seems that the Govt. and UIDAI will first observe the current state of Aadhaar linkings, across all major services, and then based on the numbers, will announce the extension, if any.

Earlier this week, we had reported about anti-Aadhaar verdict given by Punjab High Court, wherein they had said that mandatory linking of Aadhaar with jobs violates fundamental rights of Indian citizens.
