Samsung Galaxy S9 & Galaxy S9 Plus Launched In India – 10 Things You Should Know!

After unveiling the much-anticipated Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus at the MWC 2018, the South Korean giant brings the Galaxy S9 series to the country. The latest Samsung smartphones which made their debut last week at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on February 25, will be available in India from March 16.

Successors to last year’s Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus, the new flagships will come with some nifty changes on the inside. Although the new Galaxy S9 series doesn’t look too different from last year’s Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus, the big change is in the camera. Both the new Samsung Galaxy S9 flagships will be available in Lilac Purple, Coral Blue and Midnight Black colour options.

All the specifications and details of Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus are already out, but here are a few things you need to know about the new Samsung flagships in India.

Second Generation Infinity Display

The new Galaxy smartphones will come with Quad HD+ Super AMOLED displays running at a resolution of 1440×2960 pixels with a screen aspect ratio of 18.5:9. The Galaxy S9 will have a 5.8-inch display, whereas the S9 Plus will sport a 6.2-inch display.  

Dual Pixel Camera With Super Slow Motion Capture

The Samsung Galaxy S9 has a 12-megapixel Dual Pixel camera which allows Super Slow Motion capture at 960 fps. On the other hand, S9 Plus has two 12 megapixel Dual Pixel sensors. The second sensor on S9 Plus helps to add DSLR-like bokeh effects with 2x lossless zoom.

The Camera Shutter Adapts Light Like Human Eye

The Dual Aperture cameras on the Galaxy S9 smartphones has light adaptation technology which works like a human eye. The technology helps the shutter to the adjust itself according to the available light, which improves the quality of photos.

Mechanically Adjustable Aperture

The all-new Galaxy S9 series comes with a 12-megapixel dual aperture camera lens, which can be mechanically adjusted. The f-stop between f/1.5 and f/2.4 can be controlled physically. The new camera will help in better low-light photography with f/1.5 aperture and as well as clicking radiant pictures in bright outdoor conditions, where the aperture will switch to f/2.4.

Auto-Focus f/1.7 Front Camera

For selfies, both the S9 flasgips will come with an 8-megapixel front shooter with a f/1.7 aperture and auto-focus. The fixed f/1.7 aperture will help to take professional-looking portrait shots with the front camera as well.

No Snapdragon 845 Processor

As usual, Samsung doesn’t use Snapdragon processors for its flagship smartphones outside the US. The new S9 Series will come with Samsung’s octa-core Exynos 9810 chipset. It is equivalent to Snapdragon 845 in performance and is coupled with 4GB RAM in the Galaxy S9 and 6GB RAM in the Galaxy S9 Plus.

Android 8.0 Oreo Out-Of-The-Box

Both the Galaxy S9 flagships will run the latest Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box. They will be running Samsung’s UI based on Android Oreo.

Dolby ATMOS Support & 360-Degree Stereo Sound

The new Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus will come with Dolby ATMOS support for an enhanced audio performance. The S9 series will sport stereo speakers tuned by AKG. The speakers will output high-quality 360-degree stereo sound.

Samsung AR Emoji

Samsung launched AR Emoji with the Galaxy S9 smartphones at the MWC. The AR Emoji uses facial recognition technology which transforms your expression into live emojis. You can customise your avatar and choose from 18 different expressions.

Facial Recognition Technology

Apart from fingerprint scanning, the Samsung Galaxy S9 smartphones will come an iris scanner and an advanced facial recognition technology for additional means of biometric locking.

Both the smartphones will come with an IP68 water and dust resistance rating, Samsung Pay and Gigabit LTE. There’s a new improved Bixby assistant, which now supports ‘live translation’ of several Indian languages like Hindi, Marathi and Bengali among others.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus will be available in 64GB and 256GB variants. Following are the prices of different variants.

The Galaxy S9 lineup will be available from March 16 at the Samsung offline retail outlets as well as from Flipkart, Paytm Mall and other e-commerce portals.
