Airtel-Huawei 5G Trials: 3Gbps Speed Crossed!

3 Gigabytes of data per second was passed by Airtel and Huawei, when they conducted 5G network trial at Airtel’s Network Experience Centre in Manesar, Gurgaon.

This is the highest recorded speed achieved in a 5G mobile network ever, in India, for 3.5 GHz band with 100MHz bandwidth and end-to-end network latency of approximately 1 msec.

Abhay Savargaonkar, Director-Networks, Bharti Airtel said,

“We are moving quickly to begin collaboration towards 5G interoperability and development testing (IODT). We look forward to working closely with our partners for developing a robust 5G ecosystem in India,”

The setup included 5G RAN operating on 3.5 GHz band, 5G Core and 50GE Network Slicing router.

As per officials from Huawei, such high-speed tests prove that India is ready for pan-India 5G rollout, which has been planned for 2020.

Intel Will Ship 5G Chips For Windows PC Next Year!

Meanwhile, not only network capability, but now, we will have hardware capability as well for the 5G network.

Attendees of the ongoing World Mobile Congress 2018 will be able to get a sneak peek into the futuristic Intel® XMM™ 8000 series commercial 5G modems, meant for Windows PC to run 5G networks.

They have already partnered with Dell, HP, Lenovo and Microsoft for this initiative. Such PCs will be powered by the 8th Generation Intel® Core™ i5 processors.

Meanwhile, riding on the 5G wave, Tech Mahindra has announced the launch of a 5G lab in Bengaluru, which has been established in association with Intel.

CP Gurnani, CEO and Managing Director of Tech Mahindra said,

“We have set up a lab with Intel in Bengaluru. We have set up labs with other companies also. You don’t learn swimming by practising on the beach. So we are working on software-defined networks”, adding, “We are getting ready for the (5G) rollout,”
