Nokia 4G Feature Phone

A few weeks back, several rumours were floating around on the internet that Nokia is working on a 4G compatible Feature Phone alongside their upcoming flagship Nokia 9. Two 4G feature phones from Nokia with model numbers TA-1047 and TA-1060 were spotted on the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) site.

One of them was being speculated to come with a QWERTY keyboard similar to the Nokia E72 with 4G components inside and the other from the series 30+ Feature YunOS, that we previously saw on the revamped Nokia 3310 (2017), but this time with 4G capabilities.

The 4G variant of the Nokia 3310 has now been confirmed. Last year Nokia had brought 3G to the yesteryear’s Nokia 3310. Now the company is ready to launch a 4G variant of the classic Nokia 3310. The new 4G version of the device has recently been passed through the TENAA, China’s regulatory body for telecommunication devices. The phone will launch in Europe and Asia.

Nokia 4G Feature Phone – Leaked Specifications

The new Nokia 3310 will now support many 4G LTE bands which includes Band 38, Band 39, Band 40, and Band 41. It will also support the standards GSM bands, TD-SCDMA and TD-LTE.

As per the TENAA listing, the new Nokia 3310 (4G) would be powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core chipset processors with 256MB of RAM and 512MB of onboard storage. The memory can be further expanded up to 128GB with a microSD card.

Apart from 4G connectivity, the Nokia 3310 will have the similar design aesthetics as the original classic model and will feature the same body from last year.

The device will come with a 2.4 inch TFT non-touch screen with a resolution of 240×320 pixels. The device will have a single 2MP shooter, backed by a 1200mAh unit, similar to the standard Nokia 3310 (2017).

The listing also includes a change in the operating system of the new Nokia 3310 (4G). The device will run the new updated YunOS 5.2.0 which is based on the Android-based mobile operating system developed by China’s Alibaba.

The YunOS is capable of running some apps like a toned down version of the WhatsApp. Nokia is also working on a feature phone version of the app based on the YunOS, or possibly a forked version.

Availability

There is no confirmed date for the launch of the 4G-enabled 3310, though it is being speculated to happen at the HMD Global Event to be held on 19th January in China. The next flagship and midrange devices from HMD the Nokia 9, Nokia 8 (2018), and Nokia 6 (2018) are also expected to launch at the same event.

Nokia 3310 (4G) could launch globally at the MWC 2018 like the last year when HMD had launched the refreshed Nokia 3310 at MWC in Barcelona last year.
