After disrupting data tariffs all over India, Jio has firmly set their eyes on the hardware business of telecom industry: Phones.

Effectively priced for Rs 0, Jio Phones have created ripples across the market, as people are scrambling to get hold on to them.

It seems that this over-demand may force late delivery of Jio phones, and the indications are strong that this may become a possibility, as retailers have expressed their apprehensions.

How will Jio tackle this?

Retailers Claim Jio Phone Delivery May Postpone

As per earlier predictions, Jio phones were supposed to be shipped to retailers by first week of September, so that customers who had booked these phones can get them by September 10th.

However, retailers haven’t yet received any information regarding the phones from Jio, which means that delay is bound to happen.

Confirming the apprehensions, a Reliance Digital store retailer said, “Earlier Jio Phone was supposed to reach our store around the first week of September. But now there will be some delay and Jio Phone will arrive a little late,”

This means that instead of September 10th delivery, users who have booked Jio Phones (or rather, who were able to book them)

Over Demand Is Ruining The Party?

Over-demand for Jio phones is clearly the culprit here, as even Jio couldn’t predict the insane demand of their new 4G, but feature phones.

And the indications came pretty early.

As soon as pre-bookings for the Jio Phone started on August 24th, the website crashed, disappointing users who were anticipating smooth bookings. They started receiving error messages like: “Connection Refused, server is not started or has refused the connection, and Our systems aren’t responding. Please try again after sometime.”

Later, Jio shut down the pre-booking facility, on account of heavy traffic to the website.

Note here, that Jio has made plans to ship 50 lakh phones per week.

In case you were able to successfully pre-book a Jio Phone, you can check the status by sending a message to 18008908900, from the phone number which was used for the pre-booking.

We will keep you updated.
