BSNL to Declare 4 Mbps As Minimum Download Speed For All Broadband Plans; Can It Set A New Precedent?

BSNL's Fixed Mobile Telephony Under TRAI Scanner!

State-run BSNL is all set to again re-define Internet broadband speed in India. As per reports emerging from Kerala, BSNL may soon declare 4 Mbps as the minimum download speed for every broadband plan.

Last time BSNL redefined Internet speed was in 2015 when it made 2 Mbps as the minimum broadband download speed for all of their broadband plans. The news becomes viral, and BSNL is rumoured to have attracted a new generation of Internet users due to this standardisation of Internet speed.

Now, armed with minimum 4 Mbps speed, BSNL might again create ripples across the spectrum, as 4 Mbps speed, powered with their popular and blockbuster plans such as BB249 can actually prove to be a game-changer. Under this plan, subscribers can get up to 1 GB of data per day at a speed of 2 Mbps, and then unlimited data at 1 Mbps for Rs 249 per month.

Imagine this plan converting into 4 Mbps speed for 1 GB per day: It would be smashing hit.

When we tried searching BSNL’s official data about broadband plans, then we discovered one document, which lists their plans as “Broadband unlimited plans with speed varying from 4 Mbps to 24 Mbps”. Now, we are not sure whether this page has been updated recently or not.

But something is certainly brewing up…

BSNL Will Invest Rs 4300 Cr For Infrastructure Development

Meanwhile, BSNL has declared that they will spend Rs 4300 crore during FY2018, for improving and expanding their network infrastructure. Besides, they will also install 75,000 WiFi hotspots across India, in the same period.

Telecom Minister Manoj Sinha said, “BSNL presence is must for healthy competition in the industry and benefit of consumers. They have installed around 5,000 WiFi hotspots, going to install 35,000 more WiFi hotspots this fiscal and planning another 35,000 to provide quality service to consumers..”

As per available reports, L&T has already bagged a contract from BSNL to install 20,000 WiFi hotspots, whereas HFCL will install 5000 WiFi hotspots.

BSNL has allocated a budget of Rs 600 crore to install 35,000 WiFi hotspots from their own expertise.

As per BSNL Chairman and Managing Director Anupam Shrivastava, BSNL will be spending Rs 4300 crore during FY 2018 from their own capital funds for network expansion.

At present BSNL can’t control internet plans at present speed. How at more speed it is possible.I think increasing only speed without proper infrastructure will not able to serve properly.

it seems the bsnl is using out dated technology whenn compared to other net works, signal range is always a problem. they never provide the speed they promise regarding broadband. i am iusing their plan 1092 which offers 8 mbps speed but i get only 4 to 5 mbps always
